Demon Owner Who Should Have Waited for GT500...

I have to admit, while I love the Demon, I can't help but feel the GT500 will be the far superior car to drive. Both are insane cars, but when you are dropping 100K on a Muscle Car, you want it to do more than just go fast in a straight line. Here's my issues with the Demon vs GT500.

1. Drag Radials on all 4 tires is silly for street use. For me to drive the Demon in the rain, or faster than 168mph, I have to change the wheel/tire setup to the street package they offer. It's basically what comes on the widebody Hellcat. $5,000 option! Think about that, you have to spend $5,000 on top of $90,000+ just to safely drive the car in the rain. If I stick with the DR's, they will get me like 5K miles at most and cost $1,600 to replace.

2. Once you option out the Demon, it puts all of the weight back into the car. You'd be a fool not to order the seats for $1. Sorry I like a good stereo :)

3. Most disappointing is how hard it has proven to achieve Dodge's marketing times for this car. The car will literally NEVER hook up on the street. Even with a prepped track, conditions have to be perfectly ideal to get anywhere close to Dodge's numbers. Whatever numbers Ford releases for the GT500 will be MUCH EASIER to consistently BANG OFF. Why? Cause they won't be numbers that require the following: Only 1 seat, drag radials, skinny front tires, prepped track with glue down, huge burnout to warm up tires...etc.

4. Hellcat with 5K and mods can pull on a Demon. There's no denying this simple fact. You can get a low mileage Hellcat for low 40's now. Toss in a pulley / tune for 5K and pull on a Demon. That's literally 50% cheaper version of ostensibly the same car. There's a reason why we are starting to see Demons for sale with 150 miles on the odometer. Lots of Demon owners moved over from their Hellcats and are realizing the car is just a tad faster but cost them twice as much. When they Dyno'd a Demon vs Hellcat, the Demon only put out 34 more bhp to the rear wheels. Indicating the Hellcats were underrated at 707, whereas the Demon is rated properly.

5. My last point is a subjective reason. I'm kind of tired of the mopar community that primarily only talks about the resale value of their Demons. It's like all these dudes try and buy these cars who can't afford them, speculate on future prices, and keep the dumb yellow front splitter guard on just because they are OCD and anal about driving their cars. Dodge makes this bad ass Mad Max beast, and these guys are only concerned about what it will be worth 20 years from now.

I just hate Ford for taking so long! If Ford had this car out when I bought my Demon I'd seriously have chosen the GT500. Both are amazing cars, but I do think the Demon is a one-trick pony hype car made by a broke company. Whereas Ford took the time and invested a lot more to make the GT500 truly amazing.

1. You bought a 1/4 horse. Not a grocery gitt'r. Not a corner carver. Never once did Dodge release any propaganda showing the Demon cutting up Laguna Seca or Nurburing. What was the propaganda? Oh that's right, wheelies and straight line destruction of all others.

2. Again, you bought a 1/4 horse who's sole purpose is to fly down the 1/4 mile. I seriously doubt the Dodge Demon mule running the 9.65 was weighted down with anything extra.

3. The 1/4 mile numbers for the Dodge Demon mule are probably real enough and achievable if owners took the car to the track enough to practice and don't have all the extra weight! The mule was run by a PROFESSIONAL! Problem all these inexperienced dips EXPECT to just line up and run a 9.65 or better on a couple passes. Doesn't work that way. LMAO! Seats are fairly easily removable ya know...maybe some other things too.

4. Why the heck are you comparing a factory built with a modded built? Why did you buy a Demon...if you did buy one? I say that because I've not seen a pic of your fat, slower than advertised, depreciating, family grocery gitt'r. Did you not buy the Demon for it's exclusivity? Well you got it. Just like the 13-14 Trinity owners got theirs. Just like the 15 HC owners got theirs. Just like the 12-13 Boss owners got theirs. See where I'm going? It ALL where's off...fairly quickly these days too.

5. Any HC or Demon owner sitting around keeping their mileage down for resale are just depriving themselves of a friggin good time. The next owner will damn sure appreciate them tho! Same goes for GT350 owners. The R's will most likely hold up well but the standard GT350 will be in the hands of our 20 something youths in 4-5 years. They're not appreciating gold nuggets. They'll head down the same depreciation path just like the 12-13 Boss and the GT500's.

I take it back. After getting on the Demon, it's so ****ing bad ass. Can't wait to race a GT500, if it ever comes out. I'm 7 miles from a gas station with Race Fuel. So I'll have 840bhp at the crank. Wonder who will win? :)

Still scratching my head with respect to your posts. Nice car, but you do know this is a Mustang forum right? Your enthusiasm for your car may be better shared with people on the Hellcat forums.

Car looks great man, congrats. I think from a dig you’ll have the new gt500 covered, from a roll my money is on the gt500. I think both are 130-135mph cars in most real world situations.

I’d love to run a demon, I think I could whip on them pretty easy with my low boost tune in my 03.

Sucks you own a Demon. Terrible problem to have! Lol. But, it looks like you’re dealing with your “mistake” of buying a very fast street car.

Nice car by the way O.P.!

I agree with other posts. Bro cool car no doubt. Respect is granted. But please preserve your passion on a FCA/Mopar site. We have heard and witnessed enough. The cars are not even in the same arena. I could post days upon days how the GT500 will destroy your beautiful Demon on a road course but I prefer not to do so on this site simply because we are GT500 enthusiasts. Take your brags somewhere else dude. It’s old already.
