The rep did explain the Help feature. It works pretty well. The only issue I am now having is that I can use the Apple TV and Firestick apps just fine through the Harmony remote. But if I pick up and try to use either the Apple TV remote or the Firestick remote (sometimes they work best on their own), they don't work. Tried using Help but that didn't do anything. I have to call the rep this morning to see what I'm doing wrong, because he said that I could use the Apple TV remote at any time, as well as the Firestick.

thats odd.... I still use the roku remote instead of the harmony and it’s fine. Did he move them somewhere they just aren’t getting the remote signal? My harmony uses the IR blasters so stuff can be out of sight and still works

Just curious about the Denon preference over say Yamaha when people are comparing about being a little difficult to setup and the app not being great. It seems there are very comparable models between the brands and priced about the same.

Anyone have any feedback on this Yamaha receiver? I’ve been starting to do some research for when my basement is finished. More than likely will be running a center, 2 towers, 2 rears, and 1 sub, but nice to have the option in the future for 7.2.

I don't have a modern Yamaha, but I have run Yamaha receivers since I can remember. The sound is great, and their app works well on my 10 year old Aventage 10XX (we have two of these--again, I love Best Buy Open Box). In fact, I still have the Yamaha receiver I bought as a kid using lawn mowing money almost 25 years ago. It still works and does its job.

While I haven't had the opportunity to deal with a newer yamaha, the HEOS system that can be found on Denon/Marantz is pretty sweet. If you don't care about HEOS, go for a Yamaha.

If you're interested in a Denon AVR X2000 (great condition), I can offer it cheap. I upgraded to a Denon X1300W, which I love.
  • 7.1 channel, 95 watts, 7 channel power (8 ohms, 20Hz 20 kHz, THD 0.08 percent
  • 185 watts per channel maximum power (6 ohm, 1kHz, THD 10 percent, 1 channel driven)
  • Networking with AirPlay, Pandora, & Spotify
  • Dolby Pro Logic IIz, 4K Ultra HD scaling and pass through

thanks for the offer but gonna pick up something new that supports AirPlay 2 etc... that way it’ll be completely up to date before I keep it for 10 years lol

Well, there you go! I really like our Yamaha receivers. They also seem to run cooler than the Marantz I have, not sure if that means anything.

I keep it in the enclosed shelf behind glass but I’ve got got a 3” computer fan over a big hole I cut in the back panel cycling air, seems to keep everything cool enough

That's fine, Jerry. I just wanted to toss it out in case it could be an option for you.

I bought my TV and a new receiver from Costco a while ago, it’s been fantastic! We bought the Yamaha that was in stock. Tried a Bose system first and did not like it then try to Denon also didn’t like it and the Yamaha is great

I think the receiver model changed in early 2018 from when I was looking around last night, looking forward to trying it out (set up, not so much lol)

I have a Denon reciever paired with some Samsung surround sound speakers and a Klipsch Subwoofer. And I gotta say for what I have in the system it sounds amazing. Some people will go nuts but if you can figure out what works for your space without over powering the other you will be set.

My surround speaker setup (5.1) are KEF thin speakers because I wanted good, clean sound with a minimal look. These (light gray) speakers blend right into the light gray painted walls. I took a chance on them because quite honestly I wasn't expected great sound from such a thin cabinet. I was pleasantly surprised. Sub-woofer is an Acoustech with some good punch.

Jerry, I just checked out that Yamaha receiver you're buying at Costco. Nice receiver and the price is the best available right now. Gotta love Costco's customer service after the sale, too. And yes, that $429 price is good through 3/29. If you're interested, Amazon has renewed (looks and works like new) Yamaha TSR-7850s for $343. Not something I would go for, but the price is attractive.

for the $100 I'll definitely take new through costco. I've heard the "renewed" failure rate of products can be around 17% and I have shit luck as it is lol.
