So I got a new tune which I hope will help with the slight surge Im getting with new filters JLT is using in their big air kits. I figured it might be best to update the tuner since I havent done it in a couple of years. I returned the car back to oem and started the upgrade. 3957 files. At first it was down loading a file every 2 or 3 seconds...until.. it hit 3750. It still down loading but now at a rate of 1 file every 15 minutes. I started at 2pm. its now 7:45pm and still 157 more files to go. Is this normal or is something screwing up? I think at this point its the computer loading to the tuner. i think the files are already in the computer from internet

You should NEVER update a good working SCT tuner, it will literally only cause you more issues remove options, unless you are already having issues with a tuner, I never update

I have heard some have forced updates on them. I dont have personal experience since i do not own an X4.

I still got an X2 for my Gt500

Had a X3 when i had my 2013 gt 5.0.

I updated my X-4 on their website and when finished...my factory tune was gone, disappeared, zapped, deleted, erased and just not there anymore. That was about a year ago and as long as I'm alive...She won't be stock again anyway. I learned my lesson...if it isn't broke don't try and fix it.

Hopefully you let it continue updating and you are good now. In preparation for a new dyno tune, I returned my car to the stock tune file and updated my X4 today. Firmware was updated first, then 3607 files taking approximately 2 hours and 42 minutes to update. I did not notice a slow down at any point, but it was definitely the longest update I ever performed. I performed my last update roughly 1 year ago.

There are two trains of thought with updating handheld devices... either NEVER update it OR update it OFTEN to avoid potential update issues (like device driver errors which can lock out your device). I always update the Device Updater program as a first step. Then once the program restarts, I connect my X4 and verify connectivity. Once connectivity is confirmed, then I hit "Automatically check for updates". I haven't experienced any issues using this method, and updating at least once a year. If you give your device to your Tuner during a tune revision dyno session, they will likely update it for you... at least that has been my experience in the past.

If you just use it to load custom tunes, there's little reason to update, unless it just won't work. But like any computer device, they make changes to the firmware and software on a routine basis. When I had an X3, I would only update when I knew SCT support was open, because anything could happen. I have 2 X4s and while I probably update once a year, the updated has performed flawlessly. If it's taking a lone time, it could be your computer connection. I'm sure SCT has peak hours where their download resources are strained. I was forced to update once when their latest version of Livelink would not communicate with my X4 without a firmware update. I've never had an update take longer than 20 minutes. If you do an update, make sure you have the latest, greatest SCT Updater on your machine. If it's real old, just uninstall it and install the newest version.

I got a new laptop last week and have been slowing converting everything off my old laptop to this one. After I setup SCT's Advantage, I couldn't get it to communicate with my X4. When I opened up the Updater, it started downloading drivers which gave me connectivity again. Thinking back, I don't know if I ever updated this device after I bought it used, so I decided what the hell. It took 2 minutes to perform the firmware update and 2 hours and 40 minutes to update 3,522 tune files. Why I need updated canned tune files when I use my own tunes is beyond me.

This has been an interesting week. All started with a slight surge at 2000 rpm after installing the revised JLT 5 X 7 air filter for the big air cold air. It does nit have the wire mesh inside. It looks like the 5 X 9 is disco'd

I contacted JLT and they said the tune (Lund-still waiting for their reply) may need tweeking. I didnt want to mess with the tune since its worked fine for 5 years. I called JLT again hoping somehow I could get a 5 x 9 from S and B. They sent me a tune but advised me to update the tuner. I returned the car to stock and did that. I ended up started over after the slow down.

I loaded the tune and the car ran great. Next day I get a code saying bank 2 too rich. I checked the trims and they were at -25. All hell broke loose then. The guy I talked to at JLT went on vacation.

I returned the car to oem and started to load the old Lund tune when the dreaded low battery error struck. I couldnt load the oem back or the Lund tune. I learned that the download uses alot if battery power even a new good one. I put the charger on and was able to do the down load.

The trims were still -21, even the short term. I thought the MAF was pouched. Spent 300 dollars. It seem to bring the short term down but not yhe long term.

Pulled the battery cable for 15 minutes but didnt do the head light trick. When I started it, i could not get it to idle unless I held the throttle. Threw a bunch of pending 02 stuck rich codes, OL and CL faults. A guy at the club told me about the headlights on to drain the caps. That did some good. I could get an idle (the idle learn didnt go well. Idle drops and then settles). The trims were better, not ideal but better, LTFT -13 bank1/-15 Bank 2 when cruising, -5s at idle. I had to do another reset and idle learn. The low LTFT is a bit concerning. The car runs great. If you didnt see the trims you would never know there was a problem. Now Im not sure why the LTFT is so negative. All this from a filter change

No, that doesn't make much sense. Adaptive controls can correct fuel trims by ~15%, but you're already there. If adaptive can't make the correction, it will throw a code. Did you pay any attention to the trims before you made the filter change. I don't use a battery charger to load tunes, but I do make sure all powered accessories are turned off, a/c, radio, head lights, dome lights.

No I didnt check it prior to the filter change but I had checked it around April. They were always a bit low, Maybe -10 B2 and -8 bank 1. Bank2 was always a but more negative. I have idle problems now that I never had before even with the old tune loaded. I noticed the vacuum is higher at cruise (22, used to be about 17-18) and the distance to empty is way higher
