I would look @ all other 13/14's with similar stats, ( miles, options, if modded, etc. ).
See what the average price is & go from there.
By the time you make an offer, they likely have heard it all before.
A car is still only worth what a buyer is willing to pay.

That's the bottom line. "A car is still only worth what a buyer is willing to pay".

Your offer should be what you are willing to pay, considering the market average. A serious buyer isn't likely going to give a radical low-ball offer, but if your offer is substantially lower than what the buyer is looking for, he'll just reject it and you both move on, or you might consider a second offer. I wouldn't be overly sensitive to being unrealistic or insensitive if your offer is based on the current market and what YOU feel it's worth and what you're willing to pay. JMO.

Looking at 13-14 gt500’s from private sellers. What is a realistic amount under asking to offer a seller without being offensive and unrealistic?
I just went through this a few months ago. Actually I wasn't planning on buying until this fall, but started looking and found a good deal. A few things that I noticed based on asking prices:

1. Track pack does not seem to bring much premium
2. Performance pack does seem to be worth a couple grand
3. Glass roof seems to bring 5K+
4. Mileage depreciation seems to be .25-.33 in the range I was looking at (10K-30K miles)
5. Mods are generally worth nothing unless you get into actual engine block work. High dollar wheels do seem to add value.

I searched everywhere for all the asking/sell prices I could find - Facebook, BAT, big car auctions. Found the best deal that I could find and set that as my price. I didn't get that car because it was too far away. When I did see one local, I offered 1K below my price which was $6K below his asking price. We ended up settling for $2K over my initial offer. It was more than the original price I had in my head (but still $4K under his asking). I justified this, because I found he was the original owner, it was completely stock, had new tires and it was an easy transaction (I could drive and pick it up).

These are all just my observations.

So I’ve bought, and sold many cars in my time. I’ve owned about 27 in the last 9 years of my life. I’ve learned the best approach is to be respectful to the party whether you’re buying or selling. Be up front and honest. Don’t ever discuss money until you’ve seen the car in person, there are some rare cases where the car is far away and maybe you’ll have to fly there, and or drive depending. Everyone wants a good deal, especially in a higher market.

Agree here. I talked to my guy several times before making an offer. It sounds kind of weird but people are really attached to these cars. They feel better when they know someone wants their car and not just a deal.

My guy actually asked to move the transfer date because he didn’t want me to drive it in the rain… (I wasn’t going to either)

Just offer what you're willing to spend.

EDIT: Or if you want to haggle. Offer 35% under the asking price, save the seller his time.

Lmao. Or "What's your bottom dollar". That one gets me motivated when I am selling.

Exactly. I would focus on condition, options, mods and the location first.

If a buyer is starting out with making offers over email/text or whatever I generally don’t engage. Or if they lead with “ what’s your bottom dollar”.

From a 13-14 standpoint, i will say if they are asking 60-65, you probably have a little room. If the car is in the 50’s, most likely very little room.

To the OP: Recaro’s are a big factor on their own. When i was looking a few years ago there seemed to be 2 combos that brought money. Full optioned, low mile and stock. Full optioned (minus glass roof), low mile and stock.

I offered 30k on a 40k ask. Stayed firm at 30k and seller eventually took it. Although that was for a race car in a limited market. I've since had offers close to 40 again though.

The car is a dib 13 vert fully optioned. Possibly one owner but bone stock 16k miles. Guy is asking $60k. Will have a local guy inspect it.

Here's what my dad does, and he's been buying used cars (mostly antiques though) for about 65 years. After all the talk, come to an uncomfortable silence for as long as you can maintain it. I'm talking, the person thinks you've gone catatonic. Just a long ass uncomfortable silence, then, "what's the absolute lowest you'll take for the car?"

I first saw that in about 1988 when I bought a running/driving 64 Falcon 2 DR HT parts car. We ended up paying $75 when they were asking $500.

Side note: I nearly crashed it on the way home when I stabbed the throttle on the 144 six and the broken motor mount allowed the engine to lift up, pegging the throttle linkage. Luckily it had just enough brakes that when I kicked the pedal the engine dropped back down.

Run the car through online companies or if you know a dealer see what they would give and offer somewhere between that and what the seller is asking. Wouldn't be worth their time if you are offering close to the wholesale value. That's obviously tougher on a highly modified car.

Unfortunately at $60k he’s in the ballpark with that car. It’s a sellers market at the moment.

I think $55k is a good starting point as well. It shows you’re serious and it’s not an insulting lowball.
