Found this car back in 2019 but not for sale. Earlier this yr early april once again said if and when you decide to sell let me know.
The call came on April 17th.
Made the 1700 mi round trip to look mid June. A deal was made. Took a bit to get shipped.
This is a un-restored car. Original body/paint, chrome, trim, interior plus full driveline.
Underhood only the intake and valve cover gaskets replaced. All else as left factory.
Of course things like battery, belts, hoses, tires and rear shocks replaced and i just installed complete new stock exhaust system.

First thing I'd do aside from maintenance is an Edelbrock dual plane manifold and a fresh Holley 650 vacuum secondary carb along with an electronic ignition. You can do it so nobody would ever know. Factory iron FE intakes are near 100 lbs, insane.

Nice find.

So, C6 or FMX? 9 Inch out back?

You really scored a nice ride. I would do just what you have up to date. No need to change anything. It is not going to outrun very much today, 100 lb intake or not, and the carb is a Ford spec Holley. I think the intakes are S code and slightly diff than other 390 engine intakes.
I have a 67 Fairlane 390 GT. It is a factory 4 speed, no console.
It is red with black interior. I will try to scrounge up some pics.
Your paint and chrome is impressive.
How about some pics of the engine bay.

That’s cool as hell.

What’s the back story on “found the car but wasn’t for sale”?

Just saw it and randomly told the owner to keep you in mind? I’ve been trying that mode for a few years now to no avail.

Good looking car. That paint looks fantastic for being as old as it is. Same goes for the chrome. Enjoy it!
I also want to see some engine bay and interior pictures.

That's kick ass. Underhood and interior shots?
I had another post in works but never hit send/post. Best will be to link video of delivery then follow up from there.

The 1966 GT 390 was 335hp 427tq back in 1966 and only about 3500 lbs, had 7" in length on the sibling Fairlane for better weight transfer. The S intake was a decent intake and this version came with a Holley Carb designed for exactly this. Being most likely the most original GT Cyclone out there I will leave it as is. 1967 GT 390 were only 320 hp mostly because of a camshaft change. Plan is to preserve not modify. Any carb change it would not perform as well. Back in 1966 Car & Driver tested 6 Super Cars (lol) and the Mercury Cyclone GT was at top of heap with a 13.98 quarter run at 103.8 mph using 7.75 tires. I will post that article and others along with Brochures I have saved for years. My dream car since 1966. Will give details in another post.
Holy shit, I'm jelly
Jelly as ****.
Lucky find for sure! My retirement goal. Early 1966 in local corner store that had large rack of comic books I spotted one on cover and said someday. (still have that comic book)
That car is gorgeous and in amazing shape.
Excellent buy.
Every time I see it I wonder how could this be untouched for so many years with full documentation since day one!
Wow. What an awesome find! Congrats!
Great find no doubt!

I have owned a bunch of 1966-67 Comets & Fairlanes including 3 factory 427 Comets and 2 427 Fairlanes but the 1966 GT was the elusive one until now to find the right car. Patience helped me buy it.

View attachment 1804805Beautiful car! My dad has a 1967 Comet sedan. Not stock by any means. Don’t see many Comets anymore.
Will post a few pics of my prior cars including my Factory R Code 425hp dual quad 4 speed 427's

2nd vid.
More complete showing full exterior, interior and engine bay.
Below posted from video.
57 year wait Finally over! Way back in 1966 I was in a comic store searching for new Racing type comic books. A few in particular had a 1966 Cyclone and it was love at first site. Some day some how I was getting my own MINT 1966 Cyclone GT. During the last 57 yrs I have collected many magazine articles, road tests and even some hard to find parts for a '66 Cyclone. I still have those comic books! I did have a 1966 base Cyclone that was Red with white interior and white pinstripes but was a 289 2v car Just like in the brochures but was less engine and transmission. Owned it for 16 yrs and never drove it! Was forced to sell when I moved out of state. ALways on the hunt for the right car. I did look at this car in June '23 but needed to raise funds to purchase it. My dream car finally showed up this evening as the Arizona sun was going down. Just long enough to get a few photos and a quick walk around video. More coming soon and all will be shocked at the amount of documentation from new! California car from new when original owner passed away around 2017 and car was sold at auction. With car is the Original CA Black plate, original title, original invoice from dealer, ALL Registrations from new, Owners Manual with original owners name, Warranty card and so much more I have not had a chance to look through it all yet. Included with car is a set of CYCLONE Hub caps that are still NOS and never installed on the car. Time to get busy and do a bit of detailing along with photo's and video to document the car from top to bottom as it arrived this evening. This car original paint, interior, chrome, trim and complete drivetrain. All in very nice condition and it runs like a million bucks. Stay tuned for more on this Fabulous Cyclone GT. This is the 1966 only GT 390 with 335 hp vs the 1967 version with 320.
