I talked to a trans rebuild guy who only does mustang gearboxes, he thinks the tower the throwout bearing rides on may be broken in the trans. Apparently fairly common. I eyeballed it while it was out but pull on it or spin it.
It only seems to happen in first or reverse and at slow speeds. I drained the tranny when i took it out and disnt find any metal. The pilot bearing was the solid brass type and looked good too.
Just drove it again, the noise seems to start when I depress the clutch pedal and continue as the...
03 cobra with a new engine and about 5k on new mcleod clutch/flywheel/ TOB ran great till the other day. Started getting a grindy noise intermittently but seems to be related to transmission spinning up speed...if that makes sense. First I think TOB so I pull tranny and replace tob non noise...
I got a new one with new silicone lines, the other lines were a little sketchy so maybe it just came off, the hot gas that is not supposed to be in the sensor got in there and burned. Thats my theory
03 with about 5000 miles on the engine. EGR valve moves when vacuum is applied. There seems to be a lot of heat coming through the floor...I'm thinking cat blockage? How do I test this, The car seems to make power, so I don't think it is fully blocked.
thanks
Problem solved, my intercooler pump had frozen up while the car was sitting for so long. No intercooler=high air charge temps=timing retarded=low power. Fixed intercooler, bled air out of system, back end tried to pass the front end with all of the additional power. SCT made good on the X4...
Hopefully problem solved.....someone brought up the fact that the computer retards timing when engine is hot/heat soaked but the intercooler cools the intake charge....hmmmmmm intercooler you say..I jumped the cooler pump and guess what? it wasn't running. I guess the car sat to long while I...
got my x4 back, now I can datalog. I have a datalog of it falling on it's face under boost, I don't know what I am looking at exactly. What should I be looking for? The voltage to the fuel pump seems low, really low. Never gets to 12volts or anywhere near it, seems to hover around 4-5 volts...
nevermind, that didn't fix it. Still falls flat on its face as soon as boost hits while hot. I wish I had bought a boat, a plane, and married a stripper as they would all be cheaper than owning this thing.
I pulled the intake manifold today and found the problem. The gasket was pretty geeked up and had to be leaking. I can't imagine what would cause that. It looks like something caustic got on it or something.

I turned the key on and primed it, key on engine off...got a small squirt of fuel out the schrader valve an then no more. I thought it should maintain around 40psi...maybe the engine has to be running for that.
So I pressed teh shcrader valve to release the fuel pressure and there wasn't any. That would explain the long crank time and maybe part of the problem? I am unsure how the system works but usually there is a check valve somewhere that keeps the pressure up, could a regulator or pump be going bad?
While I am waiting on my x4 to come back (and it may be a while) I hooked up the actron scanner (nothing fancy by any means but it will do some form of datalog) and drove the car. I got it to do the fall on it's face thing and have some pids. Don't exactly know what to do with them.
I don't...
Drove it easy to appt, it appeared to burn a lot if fuel, at 60mph it ran ok unboosted if you pressed the gas just enough to bring boost needle up it falls on its face and looses power. Could a fuel pump or filter cause this?
yes, and yes. Previously I found a vacuum leak (good size hole) in the vaccum line that runs to the vacuum resevoir. It has been repaired. I had to drive it today as my wifes truck crapped out, I didn't get on it at all but now have a p0171 and p0174 code. It is running lean for some reason...
drilled out the tps and adjusted as described here. adjusted the tb stop and can get it to idle around 900. It may need another return spring as it sometimes sticks a little and idles 1100 until you bump it. I cant datalog until I get my sct back. Go for a drive and it is running great...
Sorry I didn't get around to it today, had some medical issues pop up last night, I'm way too young to have gall bladder issues but anyway. Going to get on it first thing in the AM
Awesome post. I can do a lot of that (even have a fluke meter) I can't turn off
the adaptive or datalog as my x4 is bricked. I will give as much of it a shot as I can. SCT says 7-15 day turnaround :(
throttle body seems to move freely. Per accufab I am not supposed to adjust the stop nut.
Teh throttle position setting:
you can use a handheld if you have one and a laptop if the logging isn't setup on the flasher. you are looking for throttle position absolute I think it is called. you...
No check engine light, no codes. The throttle stop is supposed to be set by accufab and not adjusted (per their instructions) I have been looking for vacuum leaks but cant find any.
