'04's more "collectable" than '03's?

Well, I got my SVT certificate in the mail yesterday! I was a little surprised to see that, according to the certificate, Ford produced less than 4,000 Cobras in '04. That's a third of the numbers produced for '03.

So what do you guys think? Will the '04 be more collectable based on fewer numbers? Or would it be the '03, since they started it all? Or will it even matter in 20 years?

Also, I see a lot of "1 of 456 red 'verts" and such in people's sigs. How do I find out how many black coupes were built in '04? Thanks!

I'm pretty sure they made about the same amount both years, are you sure that 4,000 number isn't how many black coupes were built? As far as collectable, I wouldn't think there would be much difference, maybe 04 would be a little more collectable being the last year on this platform.

possibly in the eyes of a "collector".

They were the last MY mustangs to roll off the DAP line.

The number of ppl in this day and age that will keep these cars for 20 more years is probably under 10. Intending to keep it and actually doing it are very different.

I don't think it will matter, in 2002, 2003 the MY 2003 and 2004 Cobras were built. They are all SC 4.6L DOHC engines.

There is nothing rare(r) about an 03 vs an 04. IMHO.

Ford wanted to get the most out of their engineering. I hope they did.

Black was the highest production color:

2004:

Black coupes - 820
Black convertibles - 392

2003:

Black coupes - 2,251
Black convertibles - 1,679

2004 total production:

Coupes - 3,768
Convertibles - 1,896
Total - 5,664

I wouldn't count on any real collectible status for 20-30 years (if it ever occurs), but that's just my opinion.

I stand corrected. :)

Thanks, Chameleon. I know it will be years before these cars achieve collector status, but the 'exclusivity' factor of there only being 819 other cars like mine is still pretty cool!

Yes, 2004 total production was 5,664. I personally think the '03 and '04s will be one of the least collectible for a couple of reasons.
1. So many were made.
2. So many are modified. It's hard to find a "stock" '03/'04 because they're so easy to mod.
3. It isn't an exclusive model in the eyes of many, unlike it used to be. JMO.

Time will tell of course. Nobody can really predict either way. Anyway, does it really matter when you're having such a blast driving/modding it? I didn't think so. LOL!

I don't think they'll be much of a collectible besides the 04 Mystics maybe! The production Cobras of the past from SVT to be collectibles IMO are the 95 & 00 R models and the 93 intro. year, 03 10th anniv., 96 & 04 Mystics, stock trim of course!

I agree with some of that Bob but there sure were a hellofa bunch of 69-70 Mach 1's made modified and they bring good $$$ these days. And to me the difference between a 03/04 Cobra would be like a 69 vs 70 Boss, or the Machs. They have the same body style and motor just like our 03/04 Cobras. I think the bigger questions is who here expects to have their 03/04 CObra in 25+ years?

Coupes. There were a little over 200 Screaming Yellow 'verts.

That being said, the Screaming Yellow Cobra's are only available for 2004, and after Comp. Orange are the rarest. Even more so than Mystichrome

Didn't SVT always try to build 5000 Coupes and 5000 Converts a year? So won't 2004 having a total of 5664 be the rarest Cobra besides the R's)

Collectables..not likely!

By the time these cars would qualify as a collectable, I believe most interest will be in the personal" Flying car" that you can drive to work every day and go shopping.

A practical working model is in the test stage now. I seen reference to this on TV not too long ago. A limited production model may be available in late 2005. Of course the initial expense will be enormous.

But by 2015 they may common and practical and within reach of most people. At least that's the way it sounds at this point in time by the developer.

All that aside, nobody is going to get my car, so its collectability to me is all that matters. Only ~1000 or so Sonic Blue Terminators exist, and I got mine!
