because the stock motor is very stout and IMHO the most reliable. So it makes me wonder if the motor is hurt. If I'm dropping 70-80K on a ride... I'd like to be sure.

Not as stout as you think, rods are a major weak point on these motors when you start pushing them hard. GL op very nice car!

Don't see how that is true, considering they use Manley Rods?
I might be able to get a small loan when I get gome from Iraq myself. I will check the forums if you still have her.
