So like you all, I too have been watching certain auctions on BaT - not just Mustangs either.
I’m also beginning to wonder - are these cars actually selling - like the car and money has truly exchanged hands? Is there any real way to tell?
BaT used to be the site you went to to buy nice project cars, nice restored cars or cars that were in decent shape but hard to find elsewhere in the online communities.
Over the last couple of years or so, BaT seems to have turned into the online version of Barrett Jackson where emotion bidding is playing out for certain vehicles. Meaning in some instances, the prices being bid are just not inline with current street, collector car or any previously documented book values.
Granted it’s a low mileage mothballed standard 93 Cobra, but the bid value is just insane. I can understand the value if it were a classic GT350, GT350R, Or 93R…. But for just another 93 Cobra? Yes, sure, it’s great that the value is “high” to bring visibility to the 93 Cobra, but was the bidder too?
Even eBay has turned to shit anymore with what is listed on there and the crazy, outrageous bidding. I’ve seen cars bid up to crazy values and show “completed” OR Buy it Now listings show as “sold”, but then weeks later or months later the same car is back up, listed over and over and over.
