The best part is that its probably still worth around 16k.. Those things rock for resale value

I had 40k under my bed at the time, so it worked out nicely.

All kidding aside when I was 18 I worked my a$$ off for an SVT contour, and ever since that I've been selling my SVT's for huge profits and buying them at huge discounts. I just worked my way up to owning this car.

Im a bit older, 24, but im about to get my first cobra. I did it with good old fashioned hard work and saving week after week. When it comes time to buy in about another month or so, i will have a solid 25000 to put down on the car to keep my payments small so theyre not a big deal. I probably would have had a cobra earlier, but i bought a 2002 chevy prizm for a beater, and a 2002 gsxr 750 for a toy beforehand.

Oh and i say screw anyone that gives you crap if your mom or dad helped you out. Mine didnt, but tough sh1t, if i get older and have good kids that got their act together, i will be more then happy to help them out with a nice car. :)

My 18 year old Daughter got a stripped 04" cAVALLIER for 13K.I just did a Cam and porting and polishing the head,at my partners shop in Canada(SHM),and it lays down a healthy Nat Aspirated190 fwhp.We lowered it 1" and addedNittos all around with wheels Sean picked out, each wheel tire combo saves about 3 Lbs.unsprung weight per wheel and some 1 off hollow sway bar frt.&RR,Hollow as well.
Koni shocks all around coil overs for that car are a too expensive and got the Konis 1 needed`used for 250.00 all 4 unreall but she wants handling and a 12 second car as well.
I think that this car compromises It will lay down a 13.5-14 second 1320 and pull 1 g or close on handling.
Its a 2 door unit she wanted 4 door and its paid for .If a turbo or ATI come out and finances are good I would add forced air but A kit would have to be out several months and without incedent.
Imagine 250-300 fwhp too much for a YOUNG GIRL,i'M FEELING cHAVENISTIC FOR my son if he were 12 years older 300 fwhp in a 2700 Lb. car would be fine.
At that point I would just get the Cobra and tell him to take her EZ,dAVE sMILOVIC
I am a sexist pig.My 14year old daughter wants the Mini Van and she will have IT,MAYBE A BLOWER,dAVE sMILOVIC

Dave, you're awesome man. I wish my parents would have put a turbo or blower on my '96 Corolla when I was 18!! But they got me a '00 GT instead, so that's cool.

Thanks! These days racing around here has been taking to drag strips. We all started going to Muncie, Indiana to race. I have seen a few street race crashes but no one killed or really seriously hurt. I'm 18 now and hang around alot of street racers. Younger 16 year olds just getting the liceanses we usually invite them to come with us cause we know what can happen. I'm very lucky to have alot of assets coming when some of my family passes on and I plan on build a drag strip and race course here in Ohio I cant wait I will have it built prefectly for young drivers and have teen racing nights and stuff like that. I have alot of farm land willed to me to and its prefect for all of this. I just cant wait to start!

paying for stuff

First off I think it is a parent's job to help(not pay for completly) buy their child's first vehicle. My first vehicle was an 86 Ford Escort(paid $1300 from working at Six Flags at 15). Eventhough I paid for it myself I still think parents should help their kids buy their first vehicle. In most cases, I think a parent paying for everything a young adult needs tends to lead to a dependency issue that will only kill the drive of their kid in the long run. I have seen enough of it in my time to make me beleive that it is more true than fiction. I am 28 and have my own house, 2 vehicles( a 99 chevy S-10 ZR2 and an 04 Cobra), a jetski, a dirtbike, and a streetbike. Everything is paid for except the Cobra and dirtbike. I am an engineer now and make good money but I don't see how someone 18 - 22(college age), if going to school fulltime, can afford a car like this on their own. If you do....awesome!

i'm 23 and i've had a blown 99 saleen clone, a 01 cobra, and now a 03 cobra vert. Parents didn't buy me anything, I'm in the military and I spend alot of time over seas. With the money I make and save from being over there I usually spend it on my car. Oh yeah, it helps not having any bills.

I'm 22 and i was able to buy my 03' working full time and still going to college at nights. Mind you the parents did help a little with some of the expense like ins and gas but if i had to pay for them i would be able to I just wouldn't be able to mod that car and go out as much as i do.

Ain't that the truth!

I know you guys might think this is akward but im 15 years old and im soon to be a 16 year old in april :loser: . I know what yall are probably thinking but just to clear things up im not really a streetracer because I never liked the idea of endangering other peoples lives on the road and if when I need to show some 1 up thats y I have the track . Also hope I dont come off sounding spoiled or anything lol but the reason im getting this car is cause my parents think ive earned it due to my grades are very consistent and usually around 90's or higher, I help in the community, never done drugs or drank and for various other reasons. Also they feel like im capable of being about to drive a car like this safely and also I would never act a fool in my car is is because my father is a police officer.

Be careful man, that is all I have to say. I have been driving cars that scare drag racers for 4 years now, and all I have to say is that at any moment something unexpected can and will happen. Not to be mean, so please don't take this the wrong way, but you aren't ready for that car. I know that you are probably a very safe and courtious driver, but that still doesn't change the fact that 95 % of the other guys out there are not. It is those other people that you have to be aware of, and with you father being an LEO then I am sure that he has really drilled that into your head. I can't say it enough, but be ever so cautious about what you are doing. I know exactly where you are right now, as I was just there 4 years ago so I know what I am talking about. Your buds are always going to be asking you for oh shit rides(bad idea), girls are always going to want a thrill(bad..in general cause they are evil, and the cops are going to be out in force looking for reasons to pull a kid like you over.
Other then my fatherly advise from the 20 year old section....have fun, be safe and responsible, and what ever you do place the value of your own life, passengers, and your cars in the utmost reguard. Keeping those things on your mind you will always be aware. Hey, by the way congrats on the sweet ride. Keep us posted on how you are doing, and let us know if we can help. Sure you may catch some flack for your car, but hey that is the nature of the game.....cool cars= jealousy.

Stay safe

I am 22 years old and this is my 8th car... I have built three of them myself and bought the rest new or slightly used. I also have resently purchased a 2003 Harley. All these cars were purchased while I was in college. No this was all my own money and not from drugs or being a man whore (LOL) I have done this by saving $$$ and knowing where and how to purchase the right cars at the right time and price. Not to mention I am damn proud of my acomplishments!!!

Here and there
When I was 16 years old, my dad bought a brand new 01 Cobra. I had never known anything about cars and I remember the day he got it brand new. From that day forth I learned as much as I could. He stopped using it, and I started paying him for it. I could handle that car. I eventually learned to drive the piss out of it. Shifting perfectly, etc... what's important though, is that I never told anyone I owned it. I always volunteered the info that my dad owned it, but I was simply paying to use it. Then he he sold it.... :'( Oh well.

I never ran into anyone my age with a Cobra.

I'm 18 now, soon to buy the 03 with my own cash. I truly believe with the right mindset, a person my age can easily handle these beasts ;-) But I'll tell you, the majority of assholes my age are, uh, assholes, and think they are vin diesel or something.

I tell you, it truly is a sight though, to see 500 students in your high school parking lot part to each side and cheer you on to leave a nice long autograph on the pavement for them. It's fun... but I'm glad I am out of high school.

I'm sorry if this post seems weird or something. It's 3:30 in the morning, and I'm really out of it.
