I also echo the Olds engine comments... an Olds 350 will embarass a chevy 350 stock for stock. 455s are tq monsters!
I had an 88 442 look alike, and even with the hotted up "HO" 307 version, that motor was crap. Go for a 350 or bigger.

Lol, the training day car was a Monte Carlo; but i like the idea of a nice hopper. I would rock a lowrider for a bit.

24s, gold balls off rear bumper, a cheap stereo with no Dynamat, and a Spongebob Paint job.

This picture shows an '84 Cutlass, but I think Dayton wheels would look great on a clean '82.
Now I need to go play some Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.

Why do you people have to do this to me? The more you talk about it the more I want my 87 Monte SS back. Those motors were anemic at best with a pathetic trans but were an amazing ride for the buck and era. A 350 with a mild blower would be an awesome toy. Maybe I will stop by that one I saw for sale yesterday....

Drop a 455 with a hot cam in it and blow the doors off anything you meet at a light. I'm going to beg you.

LS Swap! My first car was a 1984 cutlass supreme with the 307 in it. I had to powerbrake it to even get it to think about spinning the tires but it rode nice and I got it for 400$

My first car was a 1985 Pontiac Bonneville, I swear those GM 305 engines are freakin bulletproof...I could not destroy the engine for nothing!

The car just would not die!

Built 455 or rare find or OLDS 350 rocket engine with nice trans and gears.

Super sleeper.

I came in here to say this, got beat to the punch.

Stock for stock the Rocket 350 will definitely do a number on the SBC. They have torque like you wouldn't believe.

The original 455 was only rated for high 300s hp, but when you look at the torque numbers, it was over 500 ft-lb. It was a real stump puller.
