I just picked up a 2011 Mustang GT a little over a month ago. This is my first Mustang and I am already wanting more. So I'm thinking of trading it in on a used 2010 GT500. I know the opinions are going to be biased toward the GT500 in this forum but.....

Good idea?

I would really like a 2011 GT500 for the weight savings but can't justify over $10,000 more for the 2011 over a 2010. Plus I am a little worried about this plasma arc coating on the 2011 blocks. What happens if you score one of the cylinders? Its so thin machining is obviously out of the question, and I doubt there is anywhere that can replate the cylinder, so you have to buy a new block, right?

Keep your bad ass 5.0L and slap on the FRPP 525hp or 630hp Supercharger package and you will be blowing the doors off bolt on GT500's. I have a 2011 GT500 and even though its a little faster then my buddy's new 5.0 I'm still a little jealous of his new TiVCT technology in his 5.0L especially once he gets to modding. I'm pretty sure unless Ford has something new for 2012 GT500 that the new Boss 302 LS is gonna have the advantage. But if your keeping them stock then save up for the 2011 GT500 since its the best so far and dont worry about the PTWA process its all good, and there's a bunch of new 2011's selling for way below msrp if your serious.

Really? No matter how much you mod a 5.0 its NOT a gt500 and never will be. I love the new 5.0 but seriously the gt500 has so so much more potential for lower cost. Im money is no object then im sure the 5.0 can be made to crush a gt500 but 800hp with just a blower swap is pretty sweet!

Don't know much about the 2011 GT's, but will their shortblocks be able to handle high boost levels?

If you can buy a 2010 GT500 at a big discount, go for it all day long. A GT500 in the low 40's vs. a somewhat loaded GT in the high 30's.......:dw: fugget about it.....

keep the GT

Slap a Roush 2.3 TVS on it when available, which is very soon and retains your warranty.

The GT500 are pigs.(I love pigs though mmmmmm) Yes they can take a lot more boost but the 5.0 is much lighter and you already have it so why take a big bath on trading it in...

I say keep the GT. Had 3 running last night. A stick with 4.10's, CAI, tune, dr's 12.01 @ 115, another stick tune, dr's, CAI 12.22@113, and a auto with 4.10's, CAI, tune, DR's 11.86 @ 116. Lastly me 11.72 @ 117. It's hard to justify the money for a Shelby.

I say get the 2010 GT500. You can beat the shit out of it at the track and it'll keep coming back asking for more.

You've aready said you wanted more. The bower kit for the 5.0 will be the limit. A lot of people like Roush Stage 3 owners will start increasing the boost till it's puking parts. If you can be satisfied with 700 rwhp I say GT500.

Devil's advocate here. If the numbers are right go for the GT500. If you want more as you say, a simple CAI and tune will net you 50+rwhp. Can a GT say the same? Mod for mod it's no contest.

Most important...those GT500 head turning looks are priceless. At the end of day a GT (even a fast one) is still a GT.

I went to the dealership I bought my GT from because they had 2 2011 GT500s just to see how bad of a hit I'd take after a month of ownership. Thinking they would somewhat take care of me since I bought it from them........... uh no, they said they would give me between $26K and $27 for it.

So back to plan A: built motor and 3.4L Whipple charger.
