Hey guys, we are looking at a 2013 F150 FX4 loaded along with a Dodge RAM 1500 4x4 loaded. Both have 3" coil over lifts and aftermarket wheels / 35" tires and both have around 37k miles. We are far more Ford fans, but after driving the Ram - it is fairly equal in all aspects.
Your opinions are gladly appreciated!

I don't know much about the dodge ram, but I love my f150. I was thinking about getting a 5.0 and ended up getting an ecoboost. My last f150 was an 08, it left a lot to be desired. The newer ones ride like a Cadillac and have more horsepower :)

We drove the 15/16 but the price is just too much. The F150 in the link above shows sings of muddin in the engine bay and underneath. The R/H nerf bar is dented from a hit - protecting the rocker. It also has a mild scratch that runs from the front fender all the way back to to the tail light. It is a ICON coil over setup. The Ram is flawless in cosmetics and looks like a Rough Country 3" solid lift with gay duck commander tires. lol
The F150 would look good next to my red 00 Lightning :coolman:

I'm a ford guy but when it comes to trucks I'm split between the f150 and ram. I drove both and looked at both several times and just couldn't make up my mind. In the end I found a ram with a good enough price to sway me that way. The other upside is the automotive group I work for has a ram dealer so I get a discount on all parts and service, we don't have a Ford dealer unfortunately. No regrets though the ram is a nice truck I really like it and with the hemi and 3.92 rear it has a ton of low end power.

Seems like they are comparable trucks on paper and in your mind. If they were identical in every aspect, the Dodge should be several thousand dollars less.

They're both nice trucks, but if you could get them both for the same price, the Ford will hold it's money MUCH better. That's really the only knock on Dodge/Chrysler products.

The F150 is at $37K - 37k mileage and the Ram is at $32,500 with 40350 on the ticker.
We are off to drive the RAM today. When we drove the F150, the alignment pulls hard to the right.. not sure if Ford dealer would fix it.
I am thinking the F150 should be at $34500 and the RAM at $32000.

Decisions

For $2500 I'd buy the Ford.

If you don't trade often you should buy what you like best as the value won't matter as much.

OP both are nice trucks but at the end of the day the Ford will hold its value more than the Ram. Drive both see what you like more. See if they will work with you on the price.

Due to resale alone id go with the Ef One Fiddy.

Even if you dont intend on trading or selling it, its still good to know you wont be super underwater by 3-4yrs into it.

I am also looking at trucks. I think I will stick with the F150. They hold their value VERY well.

I'd go Ram. Why? Cause it's a better looking truck and I keep vehicles long enough that resale value isn't a concern.

Underwater in 3-4 years? Either truck will be close to paid for by then I hope, so he wouldn't be under water no matter which route he goes.

Can't the 15 150's be found with 8-10k in rebates now? Takes a 45 truck down to 37 and you have the brand new tech for nearly the same price as one that's 3 years old.

Ah I forgot, this is SVTP where everyone pays in cash or either puts 50% down and only does 3yr loans and pays double payments every month.

If you are looking at being underwater in 3-4 yrs on an already 3yr old car, you should really be investing in some personal finance courses.

You simply cannot afford the car if your scenario is a possibility.

Since your from California, and half it's residents have 50yr home mortgages, it's no big deal to you all.

What are you talking about? If he finances either truck for 5 years then decides to sell/trade after 4 years I'm sure he'd have equity towards his next vehicle.

I'm partial to Rams myself. I spent quite a bit of time in an 09 and love it.

So he pays ~$35k for the ram today, 5yrs/60mo at 2.49% APR. In three years, his balance will be $13,933.00.

Is that greater or less than the market value by then (January 2019?) for a 6 year old truck?

$45k is a base base base base XLT. No running boards, etc. Not really getting the technology.

I would spend the extra $2-3k and get a 301A or 302A package.
