If you are lucky enough to make it out to the IMSA race in Long Beach, California, this weekend, you’ll not only be able to watch the Chip Ganassi Racing Ford GTs compete, but you’ll get to see a pretty special safety vehicle leading the field—a 2016 Focus RS.

“We're thrilled to provide the 2016 Ford Focus RS to IMSA as the safety car for the race in Long Beach this year,” said Dave Pericak, global director, Ford Performance. “The Focus RS is one of the most highly anticipated new Ford Performance products coming out this spring, and we know that the fans in Long Beach and those watching on television will enjoy seeing it on track.”

Followers of the forthcoming Focus RS know it features a 350-horsepower 2.3-liter engine that motivates the hot hatch via an all-wheel-drive system benefiting from Dynamic Torque Vectoring. It features several drive modes, including drag and drift modes, and is said to accelerate from 0-60 mph in 4.7 seconds and top out at 165 mph.

Even if you can’t be in Long Beach this weekend to watch the action, the race will be televised and you can get the details over at IMSA.com.
