Automatic/dct/smg/ etcetera Transmission calibration is timely and costly. Even at a simple backyard grass root level, the time and energy it takes to get a single car running well is frustrating enough. Now calibrate for as many plausible weather conditions as possible, temps, drivers styles, etc etc. Its more complicated than engine choice.

Manual trans is much easier but still frustrating in its own ways. I can honestly see Ford being able to offer a manual trans in this application. That said, I would be surprised or upset if they said why bother. From a business perspective I get the play call.

That said, some customers may be turned off. I’m wanting to pick up a new gt500 in a 2 year time frame to decently modify it. If I have to sell a beautiful transmission to put in my archaic (but rewarding) manual tr6060 or so on in, that ok by me. I also plan to sell the supercharger for a well designed and flashy enough custom single turbo.

I’m a person that likes to tinker by nature, buying it and leaving it stock wouldn’t satiate my stupidity or creativity unfortunately.

For sure will have an auto as a choice.

This is the top dog Mustang—it’s time to move from the manual and on to the best performance choice, whatever that may be.
I’m a die hard manual guy that actually races these cars (drag) and if you feel you have to have a manual trans, the GT350 is a great choice.

If the GT500 does offer a manual, I sure hope it's geared better than the 13-14's. 3:31's were the worst.

I completely agree, but I still think they will have a 6MT as an option.

Really don’t think they’ll be able to do that from a cost standpoint on a limited production car. The SVT products have always featured one trans only.
I’m pretty sure it’ll be a DCT which really isn’t an auto and should easily outperform a manual in a high horsepower, heavy car.

J, I've argued those points many times over. It is indeed reasonable conclude that we will only see one transmission. I'd love to see a manual option but I just don't see it with this car. I hope I'm wrong.

I call dibs on your DCT, providing I can find someone willing to try to stuff it in my '13.

Where there’s a will there’s a way. Still, I’d guess that I’d done well, he’d end up keeping the DCT.
If sources are correct, this car and the C8 mid engine Corvette will feature Tremec TTC’s new DCT, so we will have to wait and see reviews of this new unit.

I really didn't think about that, but you're right. It's just crazy to think this might be the first cobra/GT500 that's not a manual.

The 3.31's were there for the 200 mph top end & to beat the gas guzzler tax..

Correct, and after tires, the gear swap is the second best mod you can do to a ‘13-14 GT500.
    Less than 24hrs....

So the interesting conversation will be viewing this not from a performance standpoint, but possibly business standpoint. If Ford does dump a lot of R&D into a DCT transmission, it would (hopefully) not make sense for it to only exist in this car, so the real question is.... what will it be in next?

Or are they just piggybacking off all the work they already put into the GT?

Now that I have some track time under my belt, I am considering going back to 3.31's. I sometimes run out of gear on corner exit, but always have plenty of torque in reserve. The 3.73's are certainly better on the street, though. Priorities.

Yes I know. I would have rather had 3:55's or 3:73's and a skip shift that I could eliminate. Glady pay Gas Guzzler Tax. Anything else that was more usable on the street than 3:31. I always thought the top end argument was stupid too. I may have seen 160 mph. Anybody looking to get to 199 in a stock unmodified 13-14 GT500 has a death wish.

Oh and btw, I paid Gas Guzzler on my GT350R and the HC before that so I don't think it's sales issue from my perspective.

Woo-Hoo! Less than a day to go! We know it will be more costly - that’s a given. I think we’ll be surprised (hopefully) and they offer two transmissions. This will appeal to a wider audience, not that Ford needed to, but Ford may also raise the production numbers biased on an increase in demand. We should start a pool to see who comes closest in:

    MSRP
    HP/Torque figures
    0-60
    1/4 time
    Skid pad figure

I’d add curb weight in there but it’s not a performance figure. It does directly affect performance, yes.

The 3.31s work perfect for highway rolls and 1/2 mile races.

Had mine done late last year, just after tune/intake.

Doing tires this spring so I can enjoy it...

Is Dave saying no DCT, just an A10?

The gas guzzler tax that I didn't pay on either my 11 or 14, went toward LT's on both cars..
