A question for the New Edge crowd. The SN95 board is in love with 4:30's for the 96 - 98 Cobras and you guys like the 4:56's. Why the difference in gear choices?

Experience I would guess. Someone must have gotten 4.56s once upon a time and once the word got out, people knew that 4.56s + NA New Edge = pure sex.

Do the 96-98 snakes have the same powerband as the New Edges? Didn't they have a lower rated engine? Maybe that is why they like the 4.30s. 4.56s were too much gear.

I just got 4.30s installed after a lot of debate and talking with people about next years mods and I decided on 4.30s. I am going with some nitrous and future NA beast and I got more 4.30 votes than 4.56s. Either way, gears are muy bueno!

SN95 305hp v.s. New Edge 320/325hp. Maybe it makes a difference as to which gear works better. I do like my 4:10's though.

get the 4.30's.

If you cant decide get the bigger gear.

I have had them all 3.27's, 3.55's, 3.73's, 4.10's, and 4.30's in my car.

When I put the T-trim on my car Im going to put a 3.90 in the rear!!!

Damn brain.....I'm still confused......My cobra is a DD (engine mainly stock)....I do a lot of 80mph highway speeds everyday....but I want more low end torque/acceleration!......What would be my RPM ranges at 80mph on 4.10's, 4.56's?

IIRC, the last time I drove my car doing about 80, i was a little bit over 3K I think. I wouldnt get 4.56's if you drive it on the highway everyday.

96-98 4Vs make their 305 HP peak at 5800 rpm. 99/01 4Vs make their 320 HP peak at 6000 rpm. That will make some difference, though I would still take a 4.56 for a 96-98 (and the quickest of the 'bolt-on' cars certainly do).

Go to this link and plug in your numbers: http://www.camaroz28.com/calcs/rpmmph.html

Final Gear Ratio: 4.10, 4.30, 4.56, etc
Transmission Gearing Ratio: .67 (T45 5th gear)
Tire Diameter in Inches: 25.6" (assuming stock height tire)
Want to Compute: Leave it as "Engine_RPM"
Engine RPM: don't worry about it
Vehicle Road Speed: put in 80 (or whatever mph you want to calculate the rpm for.

At 65 mph I'm at 2600 and 70 its a tad higher. The RPM's arent high at all, if your doing like 80+ then its closer to 3K, but the highest speed limit in Ohio is 65 so thats all I ever do.
u have a cobra and u follow the speed limit? :D

highway driving isn't my problem. around 3k with 4.30s. It's going through 30 and 45 mph zones in 4th and 5th gear now. I used to ride through town in 3rd and in 45s in 4th. Now I have to decide what gear to be in so that my exhaust isn't catching the eye of every townie cop.

I can pretty much use 5th ANYTIME I want and usually do, i've gone from a slow maybe 2-3 mph roll and put it in 4th and it accelerated just fine, wasnt slow at all. I use 5th just about any speed over 25 or so. :)
