Is 1st gear like non existent with 4.56s? Because i had an s2000 before the mach and their transmission wore out prematurely because of people skipping gears like shifting from 1-3-6 etc. I was just wondering if i could actually shift from 1,2,3,etc without going into 4,000 rpms lol.

Well I'm used to shifting around 1700-2100 in the city right now with stock 3.55s. I was just wondering if it would be possible catch the rpms before they exceed 2100 in 1st-2nd with the 4.56s.

If your car was going to be mainly track and were going to run sticky tires, then I would suggest 4.56's. Since your car will be mainly street driven and without a sticky tire, go with 4.30's.

Please note the Nitto 555 is not a suitable drag tire. Its compound is not sticky at all. The NT05R's and Mickey Thompson ET Street Radials are. However, they last about only 10K miles and to not fare well in wet weather.

Could always get some 555R's plus they don't seem to wear too badly. I put close to 20 passes on mine last summer.

yeah catching the rpms is no problem. I had 4.10 gears in my 97 cobra and if I knew then what I know now I would have definately went at least 4.30. I got my 03 mach with 3.73s already in but i am planning to swap to 4.30. although it is much lower than stock it's not like the rpms just rocket so fast you can't catch em...in an n/a car that's not an issue at all. you can shift each gear quick...almost sounds like a big rig lol mine's mostly street driven and I'm going to the track a few times a year maybe and have a little fun on the street therefore I'm going 4.30s but from what I know about these 4vs 4.56s wouldn't be bad either (although I've never personally driven one).

also I might add as some of these other guys were saying...you can do a lot more in each gear with these low gears than what you would think. I never had the speedo calibrated with my 4.10s in my cobra but I'm almost positive it would do more than 120 mphs at the top of 4th gear. I'm thinkin more like 125ish but I can't swear to it. one guy said that you can get 115 in 4th with the 4.56s...it's tempting for me to get those when I switch gears but I think I'll roll with the 4.30s...

4.56's will work good with a n/a stock cams. If you plan on adding cams, short runner, longtubes, and you drag race.....you might run out of gear. That was my my fear. Didn't feel like doing a gear swap twice.

I have 4.56s and I shift below 2,000rpms most of the time. Best gear I've ever had and I've had them all other than 3.90s.

I will add my opinion here...with the stock cams and the stock powerband I'm not sure 4.56s are the best gear. The Mach 1 motor doesn't make great power up top and I think the 4.56s take the car out of the powerband. I would love to see what my car runs at the track with 3.55s...4.10s...and then 4.30s. What got me wondering about this was some new 5.0 owners running faster with LESS gear. I will say my car is a damn devil off the line!

I thought it might have something to do with 4th gear's ratio on the t-45 vs the tr3650, but it looks like they're both 1.0 :??:

What about with a cobra tremec 6 speed? I have 4.30's right now, with a 6 speed in my mach and thinking of stepping up to a 4.56 gear.

With the gearing difference between the 3650 and the cobras t-56 4.56's with the t-56 will fill like a 4.30ed geared 3650 mach ........my buddy did 4.88's with his t-56 swap and that thing is crazy red light to red light

Really, I thought it would be the opposite, since the cobra tranny has an extra gear, and you would think the gears would be shorter.

What is his tach at with a 70 and 80 mph cruising speed?

What size rear tire does he run?

Any vids:)

The gearing for 1st and 2nd was toned down a bit in the cobras t-56 i guess to help it not get away from noob drivers lol.

Gear ratio for 03-04 mach 1's 3650

1st. 3.38

2nd. 2.00

3rd. 1.32

4th. 1.00

5th. 0.62

Gear ratio for 03-04 cobras t-56

1st. 2.66

2nd. 1.78

3rd. 1.30

4th. 1.00

5th. 0.80

6th. 0.63

My buddy has 315/35/17 mickey thompsons on his cobra (its a 97 cobra) as far as the rpm's he's turning at freeway speeds ill ask him and let you know!

Shweet, thx mang. I am leaning towards 4.88's based on this information. It makes sense because my 97 cobra with 4.56 gears pulled alot harder at a much lower hp/tq level than my mach with the t56. This mach is at 325rwhp/329rwtq with 4.30's, and my old cobra with 297rwhp/290rwtq got bent out of shape a whole lot faster.
