5.4 4v swap question

i have a 97 cobra with a 5.4 4v from a 2004 navigator, and i am looking to improve performance and get some clearance to put a hood on. i know they make adapters to install 4.6 4v intakes, but does it matter the year? can i put any 4v 4.6 intake on like 96-01 cobra intake? Mach 1? what heads can i do to improve performance too? can i do a 03/04 termi swap with adapters?

MMR has an intake made from a navigator lower with a boxed upper for $699. You could also do a mach/99-01 cobra intake with the adapter plates. 96-98 cobra intakes will not work since nobody makes adapter plates for those. As for heads, the navigators heads have great flow, I would just stick with those and do a ported mach/cobra intake.
