There are no dash lights on. The clutch works just fine. I bought the car with 72,000 miles on it and I have never replaced the clutch. I am not sure if the previous owner did. The speedo is off by about 5 mph.

What caused the damage to the rear quarter?

Is the odometer off by 5 MPH too fast or too slow and for how long has it been that way? It sounds like you're saying the actual and exact mileage is unknown.

I'd like to speak with the dealer who offered you $3500 for that car. I'm not calling you a liar, but I am saying I don't believe you.

We had a nice mystic with half the miles and no body damage that the dealers were offering around $3000 for. I can't imagine a dealer offered you but $1500 for this car unless you were buying something else from them and they were taking profit from the new car and showing it in the old one.

I'm interesed and have the cash, but I'm not sure I can get to your $3500. :)

Someone backed into me in a driveway. The speedo is off by 5 MPH too fast. So if you are really going 65, it shows 70. The odometer probably has a few thousand more miles on it than it should. I bought the car with those gears in it at 72,000 miles. I was going to trade it in on a new 2011 Focus for a daily driver and the dealer was going to give me $3500 for it. If you are not calling me a liar, but you are saying you don't believe me...isn't that the same thing? :bash: If you are serious about making an offer, let me know.

You're right. I worded that poorly.

I'm not calling you a liar. I'm just saying I don't understand how a dealer would make that offer. Having been in the automotive retail space at one point in my career, it's not typical for a dealer to make strong offers with specialty vehicles that have significant damage.

That repair isn't an inexpensive one to repair.

If you've got a $3500 offer from a dealer, why are you bothering here at the same number? Just sell it to them and save yourself the headache.

Especially when KBB shows it at 3000 in FAIR condition. With the damage to the car and the miles, I think we can all agree that the value on trade in would fall somewhere between poor and fair.

Not that it's in poor condition, but the accident makes it hard to sell. You're one of the crowd. Would YOU want a high mileage Cobra that's been hit in one of the most expensive places to fix?

Not unless you were getting it at the absolute right price, which is my point.

I'm not trying to bash your sale or the car. I'd like to own it as a daily drive that I don't have to worry about the miles on.

I can give you $2500 for the car and pick it up before the weekend is out, if you're ready to be rid of it.

Otherwise, I really hope someone comes along who gives you the money you want out of it. :)

    No harm, no foul. :burnout:

Not to be a jerk, but I don't know that the damage to the rear and the back bumper let this car fall into the "nice shape and great looking" category.

It's a thousand dollars to fix it, assuming you have a good friend at a body shop who owes you a favor.

If you think it's worth $3500, then by all means please buy it. I'm sure you'd enjoy it and the OP would be happy to sell it to you.

Otherwise, please let those of us who are actually ready to hand him some cash work on getting closer to a deal or YOU STFU and GTFO. ;)

Well, the dealer did make that offer, I don't know what else to tell you. I figure I would offer the car to board members instead of having it auctioned off somewhere by the dealer. I am not sure what you are putting into KBB, but I just did it and the FAIR condition value for a PRIVATE PARTY sale is $4255. I already have an offer of more than $2500. I also have someone coming to look at it tonight as well. If I can't sell it for a reasonable price, then I will probably just keep it.

He showed the values for trade in. I believe he was looking at the trade in pricing to show what the dealers are most likely to offer.

Often dealerships will give you more money on paper than what the car might be worth (not saying its not worth that amount, but most dealers actually use the Black book when determining actual value of the car, the bluebook is more of an inflated value of the car (makes it great when you want to sell something or trade), they make up for it on other ways such as what you'd be paying for your new car. This is not uncommon for this to happen when buying a newer car. Looks like a clean car! Sure you are wanting to part with it? If so, good luck, again nice ride :)

Thanks for the good words....I don't know how they determined the price, but I spoke to a manager and that is what he offered me. I am on the fence about parting with it because it has been a great car, never had any major trouble with it. I just need a daily driver, something better on gas. Plus, I just bought my 04 Cobra, so that will be my new toy.

Wow. This is a RUNNING AND DRIVING COBRA. High miles, dents in the body.. all that is true, but you can't really find a wrecked cobra for $2500 dollars...

List this thing on craigslist for $3500 man. It should sell with ease.

Thank you...yes, I think you would be hard pressed to find a Cobra for this price...IMO, its a good deal, I just listed it at my rock bottom price so I don't have to haggle.

I'm also interested in this Cobra. I can not find a decent one for this price in the area. Is it still available?

Agreed. There's a couple of 95s, with similiar mileage that are going for 4-5k and I would imagine that even as a roller, you could scare up about 1200 for a 97.

Yes, it is still available. The gentleman could not make it to the bank in time tonight. I have another gentleman from Baltimore coming to look at it tomorrow. Let me know.
