What? Were the cops sent in unarmed? That's not good. Or do you mean armed citizens should have gotten involved? Just trying to understand how this stuff can happen and where more guns would have helped.

Florence has McClod hospital system and monster dot com as well as some major manufacturing and pharmaceutical companies. But i wouldn't want to live there

That entire area of Darlington and Florence county has been growing. I look for more manufacturing to move in if the economy keeps heading in this direction.

Depends on the type. If you have the cash to buy large industrial tracts and can wait, then I'd say yes. I know someone who has done very well for himself doing that in the upstate.
