Well, I just heard from the higher ups that Ill be heading out in July or September.

Any tips on getting time to go by fast? Things I should bring?

My wife will be back home, working full time so hopefully that takes her mind off of it.

Any insight will be greatly helpful.

You guys only do like a 3 month pump right? And you'll probably be in a hotel, lol, j/k. Hard drive with plenty of porn/movies/games/favorite sitcoms.

Haha I wish. I have to go to Texas for two months of training, then 6 months there. Most likely not gonna be in anything near a hotel.

This is my first deployment, just trying to get a feel for how this goes.

I have no idea what rank you are or what you do in the AF, but expect the unexpected, don't get your hopes up and you won't be disappointed. Expecting to live in a shithole building in the middle of the city, only made us happy to live in a somewhat shitty building in the middle of the city. Mark all your gear and your personal shit.

Keep your head down and your ass covered. Good luck and thank you for your service from an Air Force retiree. Make sure all of your personnel stuff at home is in order and spend the remaining few months in the states enjoying your family before you deploy. God's speed.

Nothing really to add for you, but make sure you stay in contact with your family and friends while you're gone. Depending on where you are at, you may have either wifi or real internet available. An email or two each week goes a long way, but be careful how you tell people things. Some will want to know the truth about how bad it sucks, others will want it sugar coated. One of my closest friends finished his first KC-135 tour last year and the emails he sent were great. I wish he could have done the same thing when he was flying 130's on the deck in hostile territory. Take you own laptop if possible, time on government computers is hard to come by.

LOL kuwait is not a deployment ... it is a vacation :). My nephew (bomb loader on an A-10 / door gunner) has been to kuwait a couple times and Balad Iraq once. If you are a gym kinda guy you will go home in great shape.

I Freaking Love my Deployments! I can't really add much to what has been said, enjoy it for what it is. Don't be one of these tools who has a piss poor attitude and hates everything. Live it up. Makes some money and enjoy making once in a life time memories!

Aww, your Vehicle Ops. So I'm guessing your going to BC3 for convoy training out at Camp Bullis before heading to Kuwait?

Yessir, thats the plan.

And I am definately going to make the most out of it. Its an opportunity to learn new things, and see new places. Pretty damn excited.

You will be fine then. Your training is only a month long, it kind of sucks but it's not that bad. Arifjan Kuwait is where you will be based out of and that place is hooked up, it has everything you will ever need. Try and go out on as many missions as possible, it makes the time fly and will keep you busy. Just got back last year from the same thing, I am 2T370. Feel free to ask any questions but I’m sure there are a few guys there who have been there before. Good luck and enjoy Tampa, I miss that place, was stationed there for five years
