I've been looking around for about a week for a good price on a drag setup for my car. I had some rear 17x9's with MT 26x11.5/17 ET Streets lined up but I drug my feet and someone else snapped them up. Now I can't seem to find a good used set anywhere.

Hopefully I'll find a good set within the next couple weeks, but if not, what is a good and affordable setup? I'd like to stay under $1500, and really as close to $1000 as possible. I know the rear tires alone, new, are going to be almost $400 going with the MT's - maybe there's another brand I should look into?

I'm not looking to get the lightest wheels out there, just something that I can put the ET Streets on for the back, and some skinny's for the front.

Any ideas on where I should be looking?

Edit: I forgot to say that I would really, REALLY, like to stay away from having the grind/roll anything to get the wheels to fit.

Thanks,
Zach

I feel the same way about not wanting to grind or cut anything on my car. To get a 15" front runner wheel to fit you will need at least a 1" spacer. I have Bogarts with the factory welded spacer to the wheel and they clear perfect. Not to cheap to buy brand new though.

For the rear you can run 16" wheels without grinding. From my research it seems that Diamond Racing Wheels has wheels for our cars that clear the brakes fine. They are called the Joe Walsh specials and are 16X10" wheel. I want to say they will be a little over $300 for the pair. You have to call them and tell them what you need. I plan to order some soon.

race star

they are releasing the 17"s this month. 17x4.5" fronts are about $240/ea. 15x8 or 10" rears are $180/ea I think.

Race Star Industries

dont go by these prices, but i have been talking with a few places that carry them and the prices are a bit cheaper.

I did 16x10.5 Diamond Racing Wheels on the rear w/ 26x11.5 M+H cheater slicks/tubes and stock spare tire rims on the front with M+H front runners. Probably the cheapest setup you'll find, the ugliset too. Funny thing is every time I turned around the car had 6-10 people standing around it. But for a car which may see a dozen passes a year why spend big bucks for parts to sit in the attic?

The rears fit our bolt pattern and offset w/out grinding. Good for 1.63 60' spinning (driver error) and 11.2@127 w/ported eaton. 50 lb. weight loss from the front end too! I was able to find stock spares for $50, I got lucky, Craigslist if your friend, people there don't know what their s*it is worth!!

If you want 2-17" wheels for drag radials I have two polished 95 Cobra R's. 17x9 that I'll sell. They aren't all that heavy. They are just sitting collecting dust. PM me if your interested and want pics

Tractionless - when did you buy those Diamond racing wheels? I emailed them and haven't gotten a response, hopefully they are still in business.

Thanks,
Zach

you can get 15x8 steel wheels from jegs for 50 bucks each. then run 26x10.5 et streets. 4" backspacing but i dont know if you would still need a spacer?

You will need a spacer for the fronts with anything smaller than a 17" wheel. As for the front tires I believe they were around $90. Give M+H a call they are very helpful. Also give Diamond a call if you aren't getting an email response. I bought mine at a killer deal used but they are still avaialble.

I have posted many times, I can also get Billet Specialties in a 16x9.5, which I run on my car. Those Diamond Racing wheels are UGLY!!! I run a Hoosier 28x16 slick on my car with the BS wheels.

I run the 15x3.5 on my car with an hubcentric 35mm spacer. No mods needed to make them work.

Not all of us try to impress strangers, some of us just take pride in our ride. To each his own.

So I'm not taking pride in my ride because I bolt the Diamond wheels on at the track for 12 passes a year? Nice assumption, your dead wrong.

^^^ I'm with him. With how little track time my car gets. I'm not going to go all out with the special wheels/tires. If it gets the job done, perfect. Maybe with time, but I'll take function over form anytime.
