If it is has finally decided to die I can't complain. It's given me at least 12 years of great service...

I noticed last night on the way home it started alerting that there was weak Ka signal behind me...It started just out of town and continued all the way to my barn (which was a little odd considering my driveway is 3/4 mile long through the woods and winds several times which would seem to have made it difficult for there to have been a radar source behind me without me seeing it...

Cranked up this morning to take my daughter to school and it was back. Stayed that way until I shut the car down at the office.

Also of interest is I passed through a construction zone that has the speed warning signs that flash your speed as you pass them. I have picked them up every morning for weeks now (since they've been deployed) but this morning I just kept flashing that lonely, weak single Ka signal behind me...

I know it's a loaded subject as everyone has their opinions but I'm wondering at this point if it's better to send to Valentine to have them check it out or maybe roll the dice on one of the new Escorts?

Surely the detection technology has improved significantly over the years? I haven't done the most recent upgrade on my V1 as it appeared to be mostly a connectivity thing to hook it up to my phone (which I could care less about) but did do the one several years ago that actually seemed to be a performance upgrade...

Thought? Anybody else have one that failed like this? Is there a way to reset it to see if it's just some electrical gremlin that's popped up?

Mines a couple years older than yours.

If it's 12 years old it's probably time for a firmware update. Send it in for the upgrade and have them check it out while it's on the bench.

Go to their web site and enter your serial number and it will give you the exact price for the upgrade to current specs.

Makes it easy to decide what to do. Fix or buy new.

I mean radar cruise control wasn't really a thing in 2005.... not sure why you blame valentine for not knowing that radar cruise control would be a thing back then

I laugh in your general direction for your complaining about having to pay for upgrades.

Go complain to Apple when you want the features in the new I-phone and don't feel like paying for it.

A radar detector is no different. The detector manufacturer can not control the advance of automobile and Police technology. All they can do is constantly offer upgraded and newer units so they only alarm on real police threats and not on every new safety nanny that gets invented. Now it's lane control and cruise control radar. Soon it will be autodrive detection devices. Who know what the police will demand to counteract "their" radio frequencies getting fouled up by Federally Mandated safety measures.

$300!?!?! Mine was/is older than yours and the upgrade was less than $129 shipped! Have you tried running your V1 in "logic" mode? I don't have any issues with audi, bmw, merc, or caddy's setting mine off. Check yer settings man.

A lot of the newer cars with all the lane sensing and other parameters tend to make mine act up a lot but I know whats around me enough to know what the radar is detecting. The mute button is a wonderful thing.

I don't mind hitting mute, it's the constant extra beeps as it switches from 2-5 then back to 2 radars located ahead, behind, and to the side.

And as far as comparing to Apple, it's a software upgrade, pretty sure my iPhone still gets them for free.

Fair point...

Checked my serial number. $300+ to upgrade my unit that has baked in the Florida heat on my windshield for 12 years or spend $400 for a brand new one.

And the $300 doesn't include whatever may need to be replaced just to fix it.

I'm thinking time to just get a new one and give this one a Viking funeral...
