I just bought a 2004 Azure Blue Mach 1 last week and I'm already thinking about mods. It's an automatic and the guy who owned it before me put 3.27 gears in it. (don't ask me why because I don't know either) It also has a Pypes O/R x pipe and single chamber Flowmasters on it.

I'm thinking about buying the SCT Bama tuner from AmericanMuscle. Could anyone give me any feedback on whether or not it's worh it?

I used one on my 07 GT and it was def. worth it. Not as good as a Dyno tune obviously but it great for the day-to-day stuff. The AM guys are easy to deal with, and the gains on the 3v were noticeable (especially with the auto trans, shifts much more firmly than before.) All and all good for the $$ but for the love of god ditch those gears.

NO, I wouldnt let Bama touch my car. A LOT of people have drive ability issues with Bama tunes even on basic bolt on cars. Throw a cold air on it, or at the least remove the factory air silencer, and depending on what you do with it, put a gear in it, then you will do great with a tune. Just a cat back and mid pipe and the gains may or may not be worth what you will pay for a programmer and getting it tuned.

I use Bama tunes on my 2012 and I have had zero issues. Fantastic customer service as well. I won't get it dyno tuned until I start putting down some higher HP numbers. There are obviously people that have had issues with Bama tunes, but there are also people that have issues with dyno tunes as well. Whatever you do, there's always a risk you're taking, but I really wouldn't sweat over Bama tunes too much, especially if you're only doing minor bolt-ons.

Thanks!

Skylar,

I highly recommend getting a custom Bama tune for your Mach1! We've seen awesome results with these N/A 4v engines when tuned. Especially with the car being an auto, we'll firm up the shifts and adjust the shift points accordingly.

For every Bama Tune we ask you 19 questions about your specific Mustang, including your unique mods and style of driving. This info helps us write custom tunes from the ground-up for your Mustang's mods that will give you the most horsepower that we can safely deliver. We're also constantly developing our tunes! Between our 14 different Project Mustangs and tons of street/track and dyno testing (on our in-house Dynojet 224xLC), we're looking for any minor tweaks to be made that can benefit you guys!

If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to shoot me a PM. I'd be happy to help anyway possible!

Shane

My 97 cobra runs terrible on all the bama tunes ive had

whiteboyawesome,

I'm sorry to hear this! Have you had a chance to contact our Bama Tuning Specialists with your complaints? I'm sure they'll be able to straighten out any tuning issues you have, assuming the car is completely mechanically sound.

If you haven't had a chance to contact Bama yet, I could certainly have one of them give you a call. Just send me a PM with any of your previous AM order numbers and I'll get all of your info over to one of my best Bama Specialists. I'm confident he'll get things squared away for you!

I had a bama tuner on my full bolt on/ full exhaust GT and it was really responsive to the tune. I just ordered more tunes from them for my Mach 1 and can't wait to get the tuner and load them on. I'm sure it'll be a lot more responsive to the tune than the GT was. And as always, the customer service is outstanding!

Let me know how you like it!

I'm thinking about ordering this JLT RAI too. I think a ram air intake and a tune would make the car really fun to drive paired with my full exhaust.

It was a night and day difference with my Mach when I used Bama tune. No problems either. But I did pick up 6 peak whp and 13 whp through the mid with a dyno tune. If you have the money, I'd say go for it. And then when you save some more and start doing serious mods, get a dyno tune.

Thanks for the info. I don't plan on doing serious mods (at least not in the near future) since my car's a DD.

Do you have an aftermarket CAI/RAI? I put one on my '04 V6 and I felt a couple more hp and an increase in mpg, and it sounded better. I'm thinking about getting one for the Mach but I'm not sure if it'd be worth it since it's already got the shaker hood.

The shaker doesnt do much if anything, but looks cool.

I have the C&L intake. It sounds cool and you can hear the air being sucked in. But that's pretty much it. You can put a k&n filter in and get the same power "gains". And yea the shaker doesn't do much at all.

I still don't know how my car passed inspection without cats. They plugged the computer into the car underneath the steering wheel and it still passed. Does this mean there might be a tune already on the car that tells the computer that I still have cats? If I got an SCT/Bama tune would I fail my inspection next time?

Will do. My mach has bassani mid lengths, offroad x pipe, and a catback. Also a JLT RAI without the shaker hook up. I'm going to do some data logging with my laptop as well, to make sure everything is running good. I hope to feel more power in the midrange because that's when it feels like a freight train.

DONT ! get a custom tune or go with someone else do not buy BAMA. do a search on mach1regestry and you find out why.
Pinging/detonation like hell! 5retunes or whatever you call it, i said **** it.
now iam cammed and custom tuned and have ZERO pinging or drive ability issues.
dont waste your money on a bama tune. they may can tune a coyote but they sure dont know how to tune a N/A 4v mach 1.
