Greetings! I've got a set of eibachs for Wilbur (my 03 terminator), and have been looking at C/C plates so I can complete the installation. I notice some C/C plates have three bolts and some have four. Whats the diff? Does it matter??

Thanks for the help - great forum!

4 bolt is stronger than the 3 bolt. You do have to drill a hole in the tower for the extra bolt hole however its very easy and straight forward.
If you decide to go with coil overs down the road a 3 bolt system is out of the question. 4 bolts offer more strength and will be less likely to deform the strut tower.

EDIT: Personally I went with 4 over 3. I don't have coil overs but I felt like going with Maximum Motorsports 4 bolt kit was the correct way of doing it.

Kevin,

Awesome - thanks very much for taking the time to reply!! While I doubt I'll ever stress out the front end enough where three bolts wouldn't stand up, I also don't believe in cutting corners. I'll go find a deal on some Maximum Motorsport C/C plates so I can get on with it. I've been running around with a box of springs in my trunk for a few months now. Time to pull the trigger. Was thinking about adding a Steeda TriAx as well - the stock shifter is a little gimpy.

Thanks again!

The J&M Caster plates are very nice pieces as well. I went with them instead of the MM pieces and have had them on my daily driver for 1 year.

Keep an eye out for MM's deal of the day. I am sure CC plates will pop up again before it is over.

I'm not sure what "Notchy" means??? To tell you the truth, Ive never actually handled a TriAx, but last time I thought about a new shifter they seemed like the gold standard. A poor assumption? MGW does look nice though! $80 seems like a deal though.

Likewise Mark.... Ill be looking and will share as well!

I've got a Steeda TriAx on my 89, and an MGW on my 04. On shifting, I'd rate them similar. The great part of the MGW for our cars is the adjustable handle assembly, which lets you pull the shifter towards you, making 5th and reverse so much easier to reach.

One thing I've noticed about the mm plates is the face of the bearing on mine have some surface rust. I plan on calling them about it but just haven't gotten around to it. My car sits in the garage and never sees rain or snow.

From an engineering perspective which would be better; a 4 bolt flange or a 3 bolt flange

Engineering should cover all design parameters, and in the end almost every design is a compromise between different parameters. The 4 bolt will spread the load more evenly and provide a more rigid platform, but it does add some weight and requires drilling holes in your car. For use with coil overs, the 4 bolt seems the correct choice to me. For those without coil overs, the 3 bolt works fine.
