-Heads
-Valves
-SOHC vs DOHC
-4 barrel vs 2 barrel (obv doesnt pertain to an SN95 Cobra but still good V8 knowledge
-Why or why not (would a 94-95 Cobra be better because of the 5.0 vs 96+ only having a 4.6L)
Thanks!
there's quite a few variants of the SN95 Mustang..
94/95 have the 5.0 V8, pushrod engine 215 hp 285 torque. , designed in the late 50's and introduced in 1962 in 221 cubes.. great engine, a lot of aftermarket parts.
96-98 GT have the 4.6 SOHC designed to match the power and torque of the 5.0 it replaced. 215 hp 285 torque in 96, 225 hp/290 torque in 97/98.
Also the 99-04 is the "New Edge" Mustang, but still a SN95 chassis
99-04 GT have the same 4.6 SOHC, but with PI heads and make quite abit more power. 260 hp 302 ft lbs torque.
94/95 Cobra has the same 5.0 in the GT, but with better heads, intake etc.. rated at 240 hp / 285 ft lbs torque..
96-98 Cobra has the 4.6 DOHC, rated 305 hp/ 300 torque
99/01 Cobra also has the 4.6 DOHC, but with tumble port heads, for a better fuel/air mixing, rated 320 hp / 317 torque. Also the 99/01 Cobra have IRS, some people hate it, others love it..
03/04 Cobra same 4.6 DOHC but with major revisions. Cast iron block vice aluminum in the earlier Cobras. They came with 112 cubic inch Eaton Gen IV superchargers and rated 390 hp/390 torque, but very under rated.. (closer to 440 hp 430 torque taking what they made stock at the wheels)
T-56 6 speed transmission since the earlier 5 speeds available couldn't handle the torque the Terminators produced.
as far as reliability, at stock levels any of the above engines are good for a couple hundred thousand miles with regular maintenance, some have over 300K and counting..
Maybe I should have said Low end usable torque.
Put 7lbs of boost on a 5.0 and you'll be making 300rwhp also but at 2500 rpms. And stock turbo? when 240sx's come with turbos? Seriously I never of one. I think the 200sx came with one.

Mach 1 cough cough
yeah, you have the Mach1, basically a New Edge 96-98 Cobra (4.6 DOHC with solid rear axle) the Bullit a beefed up New Edge 4.6 SOHC GT.. I'm sure there's a few more out there, but all in all, most people think of the GT and Cobra when talking about V8 Mustangs.
Yup Hey OP it goes something like this
00 Cobra R>03/04 Cobra>>99-04 Saleen SC>99-04 Roush SC>03/04 mach>99/01 Cobra>96-98 cobra>94/95 Cobra>01 Bullit>99-04 GT>99-04 Roush N/A>99-04 Saleen N/A>94/95 GT>96-98 GT>96-98 Saleen
I'm sure with his $8,000 budget we can narrow your list down quite a bit.
What's this, I always heard that the sn pushrods weren't very modder-friendly because the blocks tend to crack after a certain amount of torque? I can't remember where I heard that but I think I'd just stick with a mod motor. Either 2v or 4v's fine, especially if you wanna throw a blower
LS1 F-body.
For under $8k, you can get a really clean LS1 that respond incredibly well to mods, and IMO, look a lot better than the 94-98 mustangs to boot.

You want a Fox or 94-95 GT/Cobra. Don't bother with anything else.
