I am not even speaking about dealers from a consumer viewpoint. But its people like you in the business that give many others a bad name. You are blaming the consumer for purchasing a car in a system designed to part them with their money.....rich......funny...but rich.

Name a single retail industry that isn't designed to do this. Cars, electronics, groceries, etc. Maximizing sales and profits is not unique to auto dealers.

You have written a very damning set of statements about car dealers and finance managers in particular without even realizing it.

Spot on and absolutely correct. Scum bag businesses allways have the old "Let the Buyer Beware" to hide behind. That justifies all the grossly unethical and blatantly illegal crap that they pull on the unsophisticated consumer. Gotta love this morons rationalizations of his industries well known, documented, dispicable businesses practices.

Does your grocer force you to go to a finance manager that tries to upsell you and confuse you with a mountain of paperwork and fees that arent necessary all the while saying that you must pay them.
"this is our ADM on wheaties, and here is your delivery charge from the manfacturer, this is the fuel surcharge, this is waterproofing and sealing for your bags..."

Most retailers sets a price and stick to it. The price is typically set by market pressure. Car dealers delierately set prices high and use "haggling" to their advantage. It's the business model that lets them take the most advantage.

IMHO, all of that is ok, until you go moralizing about the evil of your customers and justfying the dealers lack of morals by saying things like "people have a right to say no".

While it is not a problem unique to car dealers, they typically take it to another level. I had a local dealer try to sell me a Hyundai Elantra ($18,000 loaded), they told me the payments were going to be $600/month for 48 months.

Figure that one out for me.

When I called their bluff, they came back with $500 for 60 months. I walked out and haven't been back since.

A lot of you guys on here are completely clueless and bitter because a dealer didnt bend over and take it in the ass to give a GT500 to you.

Go ahead be bitter. I could care less.

The fact that you call dealers, me and people in the car industry unethical is comical to me. What do all you guys do for a living. I bet most don't manage multi million dollar companies and multi franchise corporations.

the fact that you try to insult my ethics and the other gentleman here on this thread that are employed in the car industry when you dont even know me, them, or the stores we work at mean as much to me as a wet fart.

I'll take my "unethical" job and six figure income and all the insults from the peanut gallery here. I'm curious what a lot of you guys do for a living that have something stupid to say and what your incomes look like.

I sleep well when I go to bed every night knowing I do the right thing for my customers and thats all that matters to me. People can say what they want.

And if you guys need a GT500 PM me... I'd be happy to get you a car......

With a $10000 ADM of course. :D

Have a nice day all.

Again, you do more to drive lower the opinion of Dealers everywhere than all of detractors put together have in this thread.

This response may be a bit too late since it appears the original thread turned into what may be a bashing but either way, to add from experience:

I was in situation where the dealer's financing dept signed the final paperwork on what to me was a great deal. The next day, lo and behold, I receive a phone call from the owner of the dealership himself attempting to pull back on the final sale. Apparently, the low price was given to me with the expectation that I will purchase the extended warranty. He was very adamant in making it clear that the signed deal was now null and void (because he said so) and I will not in fact be getting this vehicle.
Bottom line, we had some help from a lawyer who kindly explained to the gentleman, and I use this term loosely, that once a contract a signed, EXPECTATIONS, especially ones that aren't written down, are just that, expectations. They carry no legal weight.

Chuck this up to you being lucky and congrats on getting a great deal.

We that sell autos are in fact : " the most lied to people on earth" let me note a few quotes:
" I'll be back tommorrow "
" My credit is excellent "
" My trade in was never hit "
" Are you here tommorrow? "
" I have to ask my wife"
We take this and more from people, and get up the next day and go back to work. Knowing that each day hopefully will be better than the last.

A person that purchases a Cobra is probably not a helpless first time buyer that gets steamrolled by used car sales tactics. I have never experienced any forced upselling, they offer it and I politely say no, but I have walked away from dealers that don't treat me with respect during the negotiation process. Why is it a problem to just say no and go somewhere else, let the free market decide.

Car dealers need to make a profit, but they aren't entitled to run their business without any risk of loss. My wife works for a large healthcare system if they screw up and bill some procedure wrong they write it off. She's also worked for a large law firm and a publicly traded engineering firm guess what same thing. If they screwed something up in regards to a contract and billed something incorrectly they wrote it off and moved on. I'm certainly not questioning a car dealerships need to make a profit to keep the lights on, but to have car dealers act self righteous and question somebody elses ethics is laughable. You have to admit your industry has a bad reputation. Of course there are good dealers, but in my experience and I've bought alot of cars over the years most are not. I know that going in and get the best deal I can. I consider myself an educated buyer and am certainly not entitled to a good deal. But if they want to sell the car bad enough and it's positive for their bottom line it usually works out that way. If not I thank them for their time and move on to the next dealer.

Car dealerships are like other businesses. Some are honest and some are not. I have came across more DIShonest dealers in the 30 years I have bought cars than honest ones. Just resently bought a new Elantra for my wife. Got a helluva preapproved financing through my bank prior to the negotiations. Once the dealership realized they were not going to make money on the back-end with their finance rate, they were trying to back out on the agreed price. Then a guy runs up in the middle of our negotiations, and tells the salesman, "You haven't sold that car have you?" Its already sold for (Insert Price lower than what our deal was")! I stood up, looked at the this guy and said, I quote, "Sell the ****ing thing then, I will go to the dealership next door and get this Toyota which was our other choice". He shut up, and exited stage left. I told our salesman, I am not some young punk that falls for these stupid dealership tactics. I was buying cars probably 15 years before that salesman was born. I have to say, they did honor their price, but were not happy about it.

Just a few months prior to that, agreed on a price. A SENIOR salesman walks over and said the salesman we made a deal with wasn't authorized to make that deal (even though he walked back and talked to upper management and talked to them). Now the price was $2K more now. I said give me the agreed upon price or I will walk out next door (it was a automall) and buy my other choice. He wouldn't drop the price. I bought the Rav 4 next door and drove it through their parking lot waving at them on my way home.

I wish all dealerships were honest, but of course they are not. I have no problems with salesmen making some money on a deal. They have families to feed. I do have a problem when they are dishonest and make a shitload of money off you in fees/interest that is not necessary.

Go to Carbuyingtips.com. This guy discloses a lot of tactics salesmen use when trying to sell you a car. I actually came across this in other dealerships, the little tricks they try to pull on you and was ready for them.

The dealers/salesmen on this forum, I am not pointing fingers at you, but you gotta know why some folks here don't trust a dealer/dealership as far as you can throw them.

Everybody is new at some point, some never get wise either.

Read my post again. I said it's ok until you try to criticze the morals of others.

your opinion is meaningless to me. Your attempt at factual information makes you look ignorant.

Have you purchased a GT500 or left a deposit?

how many cars north of $50000 have you purchased in your lifetime to make you a self stated specialist in this field? Just curious. What do you do for a living?
