I have a cobra flywheel and it looks like its in good shape , the teeth look almost unworn and the flywheel is straight. It has some surface rust on the steel insert and i have sanded it with 120 grit and then 400 grit. its smooth as glass is this good enough? or do i need to get it resurfaced? thanks

McLeod will replace the friction surface or buy new flywheel. Don't resurface that one.

I heard that you cant resurface them . I also heard guys have done it. so me sanding it out smooth like that isnt good enough your saying? i should replace the friction surface? i have put a straight edge on it and its straight .

I've had my surfaced once til the starter ring gear loosened up, some of the rivets were really loose. The current flywheel i bought here used and just used some sand paper on it. It's stil holding up fine with 550rwhp.

If you have the time to wait and $150 then get have it reworked. If not I will most likely be just fine. I have not had problems sanding machined surfaces in good shape for a new clutch or brake pads.
You can measure the runout if you want extra confidence but just putting a straight edge on it isn't going to tell you much.

I sanded my stock one, with 120 grit and I used a USED DFX pressure plate too with a new disc. OH the horror! I've not had a single issue yet its been sparyed on and now has a whipple and is holding fine. For $200 bucks what did I have to loose?

Current fee at McLeod is $125, not including the shipping. I have mine out and ready to ship as soon as they give me the required RGA number. My Flywheel was beyond any kind of sand paper. Problem I see with resurfacing is that you mess up the distance between the friction disc and pressure plate, unless you remove that same amount from the area the pressure plate mounts also.
