Cobra makes a squeeking noise when I push the clutch pedal in -Updated with Photos-

I was driving normal today and left a red light, about when I get to 2nd gear, i heard a loud ass squeeking noise..sounded just a like a bad idler pulley. But it only does it when I push the clutch in. Then I stopped at my parents house for awhile...it still did it as i left the driveway an hour later but once I got down the road, it stopped the noise and I was shifted gears with no noise at all. Then I get into my driveway and once I went to park it, the noise came back and its still making the noise if I went and cranked it up now. Someone said it could be my throwout bearing. Any advice is appreciated. How much am I going to spend on parts? I'm doing the work myself.

also, i few times it was just a chirp when I pushed the clutch in to shift.

took the little pan off the bottom of the bottom of the transmission and this was in it:
the metal shavings look gold in the pics but they're really chrome. the big piece is black..and kinda looks like the spray styrophone stuff that u buy to spray in holes because one spot is bubbled up.

here pics.

thought so. read all the old threads on squeeks and they say the the opposite. theres makes the noise when the clutch isn't pushed in. mine does it when the clutch is pushed in. there is a real quiet sqeek though when the clutch isnt pushed in. but when i push it in that thing squeels loud as hell.

where should i buy the new throw out bearing? are they all the same?

get a Ford Racing TOB. Tousley Ford, Lethal, etc.

Typically it will be clutch out, chirping, clutch in, chirp goes away. I had one I just did and the chirp didn't go away no matter what the clutch pedal did. It turned out being his clutch. Previous installer did not torq it properly and it didn't wear correctly. There were grooves in the flywheel, disc and pp and it was causing the chirp/squeal. It wasn't until you put the car in gear that it went away.

only adjustment you really have is if you have an aftermarket firewall adjuster. If so, then screw it in a couple of turns and see what happens. If the adjuster and quadrant are factory, check your manual on how to reset the quadrant. I doubt that will fix it, it sounds like something else might be going on and hard to figure out over the forum like this. Can you give any more info?

Usually they have a different color. The stock unit is black/white IIRC.

Try resetting your clutch also. Push clutch pedal to the floor and hold it for about 5 seconds. Either slowly let it out until you hear a light *click* or you can just slide your foot off the pedal. Both have worked for me when I heard a squeak or the pedal felt heavier than usual. This could also just be masking a real problem as mentioned like the TOB.

take a look at your firewall where the clutch cable goes into and you could tell. if it is a billet aluminum and sometimes anodized aluminum piece, then it is aftermarket. the factory is a black plastic housing.

then up under the dash, above the gas pedal, factory is yellow plastic, two pieces with teeth on them. aftermarket is usually aluminum finish, sometimes red or blue anodized as well depending on brand. that is the quadrant.

took the dust cover off on the transmission and metal shavings fell down on the ground (glad my eyes werent in the way).. and a big metal piece also,, like a long shaving off of a round pulley. so is it most likely the TOB still?

Doesn't matter...99.999999% guess that it is time for a clutch. break out the wallet.

I bet it was all from the clutch disc and if extreme, part of the TOB.

That smell is burnt clutch. You are probably metal to metal with the disc to pp or flywheel

i dont think its metal now that i've looked at it closer. looks like a gasket that got hot and melted a little but it does make a noise when i hit it against metal similiar to the noise that metal would. theres only a few metal shavings that are chrome. the rest is black shavings that i guess are off of a gasket or seal.

well, you can take a pic if you want, but I have never seen a gasket turn into what you are describing.

the clutch disc friction material wears and if it wears bad enough or is burnt, breaking up, etc, well, that is the dust and particles you see in the cover. I have had chunks of friction material fall out when doing clutches before. It makes me question if some people know how to drive stick properly. (nothing intended towards you since I don't know you, although, you do live in the swamp :poke: god I hope you don't wear jorts. :D)

Kinda hard to tell, but part of it looks like TOB or clutch disc. Either way, IMO, it needs to come apart. easy enough to do.
