My girlfriend's Chihuahua was in her parent's front yard when the neighbor's Pitt Bull got loose and attacked her. He jumped on her and took a nice size chunk out of her side. She was having trouble breathing and bleeding all over, her dad had to put the dog out as it was in excruciating pain...
I've heard the pit has attacked and killed two other pets in the neighborhood. We'll be calling Animal Control in the morning as it's already late, but anyone have anything like this happen? What are we to expect, and what can we do about the attacking dog, something needs to be done before it happens to another pet, whether ours, or someone else's....

any info??? (it took place in Houston, TX if that makes any difference.)

"Her dad had to put the dog out"...wow. Ever heard of an Emergency vet clinic? Also, sounds like your girlfriend and her neighbors need to exercise a little more responsibility as pet owners.

well, from experience with animals I can assure you they are going to put the pit to sleep. More than likely the owner will be fined for letting such an aggressive dog be able to get out. You could also sue, but I think suing is not necessary if you or your family members werent hurt.

thanks for your sympathy. I'm sure the vet cold do a lot since part of her stomach was laying across the yard and she was bleeding to death...
a Pitbull attacked a tiny ass Chihuahua.

I agree, if the dog took a "piece out of its side" putting it out was probably the right move.

They haven't had problems with the neighbors, but the neighbors have been in trouble for the same thing in the past. I don't think they're looking to sue, but something's gotta be done with the dog.

Im glad you realize the cause.. but its still a shame that legislation needs to be put in place because people are scum bags.. :( 3 beautiful, well behaved, loving pits in my family..

I feel sorry for both dogs, and all animals involved..

I sure do know the cause, and it's terrible the dogs are the ones to pay the price not the idiot owner, my best friend had a female pit, was my great Danes best friend, when my buddy went on vacation his dog would stay at my house, the to dogs slept together on the sofa, so I know the good in that breed aswell,

No Pitt bashing here.
I (we) have nothing against Pitts, I've seen some sweet ones. That just wasn't the case this time around. It has nothing to do with the dogs type, they'd still be taking the same actions, regardless.
Most of the time, they're just acting as they've been brought up, in which case you can only blame the owners.

Sorry to hear it. Damn near happened to my neighbor's dog yesterday right in front of me. He always lets his dog wander out front off the leash, the pit wandered over and after a short standoff the pit went for it. The dumbass kid came waddling over barefoot with his pants falling off trying to control the pit (with no collar).

Both the owners are ****ing tools for letting that situation happen. The little dog already has three legged action from getting hit by a car. Both the owners should be put to sleep and the dogs rehabbed by the Dog Whisperer! :fm:

No need to bash all pits dont turn this thread into that. As far as fixing the problem. Instead of getting the neighbors all pist if u call huane society, u should poison their pit. Or get your own pit but make it bigger and badder and sick Kujo on their pit, jk.

Don't worry about their dog, it'll be euthanized. Not to be a dick but chihuahuas are usually to blame. people think it's cute that they're so fiesty and so small, but bigger dogs get sick of it. My pit has gotten bitten twice by 2 different chihuahuas. Both times she kept her cool cause otherwise those dogs were dead. Not trying to justify what happened with your girls dog, just putting it out there.

I don't consider small dogs actual dogs. More like overgrown rats with no better catagoric placement.

This includes chihuahuas, maltese, yorkies and any other "toy" dog. They're annoying little bastards.

My type of dogs are German shephers, pits, golden retreivers, huskies . . . etc.

HA! SVTP dog whisperer to the rescue!!! So because you've been in a WHOLE TWO different instances with a chihuahua acting aggressive towards your dog for whatever reason automatically makes chihuahuas the "usual one to blame"? Did you miss the part where the chihuahua was in HIS yard, and the pit was LOOSE? :bash:

A Pit owner stereotyping another breed. IRONY???

FWIW, I have nothing against any breed of dog!
