I have my high mileage 03 up for sale and while getting it cleaned up and serviced I discovered that the PCV boot/hose on the drivers side head was deteriorated and had a split in it. I actually heard it hissing before I traced the noise back to the PCV valve. This would be a substancial vacuum leak and could cause a dangerous/bad/ugly lean condition.
Just a heads up to check yours - it looked good from above but the back side had been baked dry by the exhaust heat.
