Emissions issue need help

I am having a hard time passing emissions this year. All other years no problem. Car was supercharged and tuned in 2010 and have been passing emissions with no problems. This year I had cams installed and now the car won't pass. Emissions center states that the OBD is not ready. We have 5 monitors they check and all I need are 4 out of the 5 to pass. I looked over the last 4 tests and the only one that ever came up as not ready was the catalyst due to not having cats, but I was still able to pass. The one I am having issues with now is the EGR. The car was re-tuned and I have done a handful of required drive cycles, but still can't get the EGR to set up. I do not have any DTC,s and the EGR was not deleted. Any suggestions?

Check with your tuner, and see if they can assist. Sounds tune related if its not being set 'ready'

Already did that. He first put in defoulers and turned the rear O2 sensors back on and then put the emissions systems back to stock. He said there is nothing more he can do with the tune to make it ready. I have driven the car hundreds of miles to get the systems ready and still can't get the EGR to set up. That is all I need is the EGR to be ready.

Just from my experience here I cleveland where we need e-check as well. My tuner turned my rear O2's off. I have hollow cats. They plug into the OBDII port and read the car. The comes up perfectly normal everytime I get checked. They cannot tell if the rear O2's are tuned out. They just read that the computer reads OK. And that the cats are on (can't tell they are hollow) and they check the gas cap. Just my experience that O2's should be off to pass e check.

The rear O2's were originally turned off, but he installed defoulers and turned them back on. What I don't understand is why my EGR monitor won't read now, when it has the last two years I have gone to emissions. The EGR is the only readiness monitor I need to read to pass emissions.

Got ya. That is weird. I wonder if an egr delete would fix that. You would have to get the tune updated of course. But that may be something that can be emailed

No that's not what iam talking about. When you took the car to the smog shop did the cat monitor show ready i.e. set?

Sorry, no the catalyst and EGR readiness monitors are not reading. Even though I have done the required drive cycles. My cat monitor has never been ready which is fine it is my EGR monitor that throws me off. If I can get the EGR monitor to read I will pass. They are telling me that the OBD port is not reading those two monitors. This all started after my cam install and my tuner says he has done everything he can with the tune.

This is exactly what I expected to hear.

Your problem is your CAT monitor not the EGR. Your EGR monitor WON'T set if your CAT monitor is not set first. Yes I know you have MIL eliminators but they do not allow the CAT monitor to set as they just prevent the CEL from coming one. This is because they won't provide the signal needed from the 02 censors that allow the ECU to test the CAT's as that test also involves testing of the 02's.

Your problem is very similar to what a lot of people are experiencing here in my state. Usually this problem prevents the ECU from talking to the state computer. This leads people to blame the car or in your case the OBD port. I had an extremely similar problem with my car years ago and my now former tuner (never going back) argued with me over the phone and emails claiming that turning my CAT monitor back on would not fix my issue and something was wrong with my car. After finally getting him to turn the monitor back on and completing the drive cycle my car passed with flying colors, imagine that. Your tuner may also argue against this but I got this info straight from SCT (waited 30 min to talk to someone) and confirmed it with someone who knows these cars inside and out.

My recommendation is that you either go back to your previous setup or find someone with a stock H-pipe that is willing to loan it to your for a few days. You can also find them on CL for about $150, I actually saw one the other day for that price. If you were in my area I would loan you mine as its out of my car.

Good luck.
