I suspect that this is not really about the Union using the membership for gain, but about the Regime using the Union to attain control.

The WSJ wrote today that 500,000 working people may be laid off that supply parts to plants (they have no big UAW checks). Plus Ford dealer employees.

I always bought Ford but may buy a new Toyota truck (after eight F-150/350 trucks). Toyota took over Nascar and now America.

Big Labor can turn off their customers. They can close plants up north and move them down south where taxes and living expenses are lower.

Honda could probably take a nice chunk of the redneck market if they had a V8 1/2 ton truck. They love those 300 Honda 4-wheelers.

Toyota needs a 3/4 ton with a Hino diesel, and bring back the V8.

UAW is looking at a massive downsizing if EV's are mandated. It takes 40% less labor to build an EV and most of that is coming out of skilled trades. That is why they are so intent on the 32 hour work week. Ford CEO is complaining that they are fighting for battery plants that haven't even been built yet.
I really don't care, I have bought my last new vehicle short of an accident that totals one.

Depending on the last year of non-hybrid 3.5 ecoboost F-150, I may trade in at that time.

Update on the strike week 3
Our local has ran out of all the good extras.
Down to staples now.

Week 1 we were getting pizzas and soda and candy, cakes cupcakes, bbq on and on.

Fast forward to week 3 we got firewood, water and ice.

Also you can tell the media spotlight has “moved on” so we will see how it plays out from here.

I have been taking advantage of the downtime though, spent last week up north in an off season tourist town, very relaxing.

I’m sure there are a lot of families starting to feel the pinch now though

Anyone else see the sad unspoken corollary?

Ford's statement on electric battery plants: "The union has taken a hard line on battery plants. While Ford remains open to the possibility of working with the UAW on future battery plants in the United States, these are multi-billion-dollar investments and must operate at competitive and sustainable levels. Three of the four battery plants under construction are part of the BlueOval SK joint venture between Ford and SK On. The workforce for these operations has not been hired.

Sons still waiting for delivery of his 2024 Grand Cherokee L. He ordered a 2023 back in April just before that production year ended. He was notified in July that it got trashed beyond repair somewhere between plant and dealership.

They apologized and suppposefly fast tracked an order for a new 2024 at same price.

He was told that it's been built. It was supposed to be delivered 2 weeks ago. He asks for updates, and was told that the GC plant was still operating. All the dealership does is just forwards Stellantis emails to him with bullshit responses.

@13COBRA

If I was you, I'd snap up and store all the <$10k shit boxes that you can possibly can.

One important point that nobodies mentioned in this thread, is vehicles for the these 8-10 million illegal aliens that the biden regime has let in our republic.

Think used vehicles are expensive now? Just wait.

MN is gonna start giving out drivers licenses to absolutely anyone. You don't even have to speak English.

I know this will never happen, but the UAW needs to remember when all their jobs are eventually eliminated, that they stood in solidarity with Bernie, AOC, and ole' Joe, shaking your hand, while the other one is deep in your pockets. All the while half the pickup trucks in the assembly plant employee parking lots have "Let's go Brandon" bumper stickers. Bunch of hypocrites.

Elections have consequences.

Automation and workers in states/countries with no unions will replace them. By far its cheaper to invest in more automation and build new plants in places with no union bullshit, than to give into the insane demands of the UAW.

The Japanese always stuck to their informal no half ton compete agreement. Even Nissan's attempt always seemed half assed.

General Motors is reportedly setting up a $6 billion line of credit to stabilize its liquidity amid the UAW strike against the Big Three. It’s a sign that the automaker is getting ready for the long haul.

The move by GM was announced in a securities filing on October 3. According to a spokesperson for the company, GM wants the 364-day revolving credit line to maintain operational flexibility. From Bloomberg:

As of June 30, GM’s total automotive liquidity stood at $38.9 billion, so it’s not at risk of running out of money anytime soon. But the new credit line is a sign GM may be buckling in for a prolonged work stoppage by the United Auto Workers.

  • GM agreed that electric battery manufacturing workers will be included in the union's national agreement, which President Shawn Fain called a "major breakthrough" for the UAW.
