Say what you want about GM, but they are light years ahead of Ford right now. Take the blinders off and be objective. They sell more cars and are more profitable, and are full bore EV/AV. Yes, many of their promises have not been delivered on yet, but they are very close. Other major automakers are actually contracting with them to built their next gen EV's.

Blazer vs. Bronco....who gives a rip. The Blazer has been selling well for the past 2 years, while we wait and wait and wait for the Bronco to drop. Two different markets. And the Bolt, I agree it is not even remotely close to being good, but it sells just as well as the ultra hyped Mach E all the while being at a $7500 tax credit disadvantage.

The term light years gets thrown around pretty loosely. How can you be far behind in EV with only 3% market share? Just today VW admits their ID4 is a tough sell against their new Tiguan, tax credit and all. Did you pay attention that Ford generated more revenue last quarter than GM did? The most interesting thing about Lightning is we can see what customers want when given the choice of ICE, Hybrid, BEV, or Diesel all from the same company, all 1/2 ton pickups.

Outside of the C8 mid engine vette, what has GM recently produced that has generated any buzz? When they resort to CGI rendered ‘flying cars’ and Will Ferrell promos for cars years away, it wreaks of Elon Musk smoke and mirrors hype.

But the Blazer is selling like crazy. I see them everywhere. Everyone makes fun of the PT Cruiser but it made Chrysler fistfuls of cash.

And the Bronco isn't that far from the Blazer either. They're going to make their money on the reskinned Edge one, just like the Blazer.

Buzz doesn't always correlate to success. For years Ford never even advertised the Mustang, but it sold like crazy.

I think GM is better leveraged with technology- they've got a bigger electric background and autonomous driving capability than Ford. Furthermore, they've already put that into the Cadillac line, ready to put that cutting edge technology there, get new adopters, and let it trickle down to lower brands. Ford has been saying they're focusing on that future, but GM has been out there doing the work before them. I suppose time will tell. Maybe Ford has a lot of new platforms and technologies up their sleeve, and we just haven't seen the fruits of their R&D yet.

    Bingo.

GM is less than a year away from starting up their first battery production plant, which will produce the Ultuim platform, and has already announced plans to build a second plant. When the Ultium platform hits, it will give them tons of flexibility, and their new EV product cadence will really accelerate. These will be EV optimized platforms, not a mish-mash of trade-offs and compromises of retrofitting ICE platforms. A big piece of profitability.

The battery pack is bar far the most expensive part of an EV. Making them yourself is the key to actually being profitable selling these types of vehicles. Having vertical integration will give them a big cost advantage over those that are not. Producing platforms for Honda and Acura could actually make it a profit center for them. I am not pulling this stuff out of a hat. It's public info that is widely available and known.

Meanwhile, Ford is just now talking about building a battery plant at some point down the road, and their battery partner just lost a major intellectual property lawsuit to LG Chem/GM. They are realistically 5 yrs away from producing their own, with second rate battery tech. Like I said earlier, the furniture salesman CEO (and a drunk Bill Ford for going along with him) set back Ford years.

I think Ford’s EV strategy of starting with broader appeal iconic brands like the Mustang Mach e and the F150 Lightning is the way to go, affordable and leaning toward performance over economy (much like the eco boost ICE powertrains). Ford also has a very solid foundation with commercial van and the e-Transit is poised to do very well in that market space. The GM EV600 seemed to be a knee jerk reaction to Ford’s announcement. I also think we’ll see some innovation with collaboration with VW, Rivian, Argo and Google.

I thought it was odd to see GM promoting the Lyriq, years away, during the Super Bowl and then 1 week later they quietly unveil the refreshed Bolt, as if embarrassed about the present. I see Ford innovate with an all aluminum bodied 1/2 ton and then 5 years later GM runs their commercial about a gimmick tailgate ad nauseam. This was their ‘answer’? How many times will Camaro come back from the dead then flop again?

Sorry, I want to believe, but I look at old GM thinking, their current stagnant product line, the 41 year ‘career veteran’ CEO and nothing convinces me new or exciting, including CGI productions, leather jackets or nifty branding for outgoing lithium battery tech.

This EV mandate could blow up pretty spectacularly in a political fashion. The grid is not gonna be ready and start making soccer moms wait in hours long lines for juice and those mandates will get rolled back faster than you can say "massive voter anger". Of course, won't be any ICE to buy, so the screaming could reach epic levels.

Ford CEO Jim Farley was responding to questions on Twitter, following the announcement that the electric F-150 Lightning will be revealed on May 19, when he was asked why Ford doesn't have an EV version of the Bronco if the company is committed to electrification.

Of course, right? Tesla is currently only selling 2 models (3 and Y), Cybertruck delayed, X and S halted production, and somebody on Twitter wants to know why Ford isn’t releasing 4 all new EVs (Mach e, F150 Lightning, e Transit AND an EV Bronco) within 1 year on the heals of an all new ICE F150 and Bronco sport last fall??

uh, no. The Austin plant isn’t even complete and the Cybertruck was still in the studio being ‘tweaked’ and ‘downsized’ per Musk last October. Mid 2022 at the earliest. Wish it was sooner, can’t wait to watch it get destroyed in comparisons.

It is being put into production as per LMC Automotive. I would consider that an accurate source.

Nah Ford is slapping all their old specialty names on any EV they make. Sort of like Chevy with SS everything 15 years ago.
