I just replaced some springs in my trunk lid and thought I would post a few helpful tips.

Here is the new spring in place on the underside of the trunk lid:

I bought the springs at CJ Pony Parts. 2 springs cost me $37.96 to my door.

They are Ford parts, so you may be able to find them at your local Ford Parts Counter

I found out that the spring unscrews from the base push-in plug (the old spring is pictured without the rubber bumper, which is one reason it was being replaced)

So instead of trying to remove the old base (it did NOT look easy, I just unscrewed the old springs and then screwed in the new springs to the old base, which looked to be in very good shape.
