I agree that the aftermarket made the cars basically a blank canvas for whatever you wanted and could afford. I also remember the snap oversteer that was inherent to the Fox Body rear suspension that made me shit my pants more than once. SN95 Cobras tamed it a bit, but it was still lurking at the limits.

Edit: I've never driven my Mystichrome Cobra on the road course and I won't, but the IRS with springs, bushings, subframes, IRS cover is significantly more stable than the old Fox/SN95 4-link. It's my cruiser and maybe my manual transmission keeper.

That’s quite possibly the DUMBEST statement I have seen on these boards.

Very true in stock form, but they do have the potential like you say. Very fun cars because of the relative sense of speed. 100mph feels sketchy and wakes up the blood even in a built Fox.

I’ve got a lasagna noodle that sticks B road and canyon corners with s550’s and vette’s.

Just mm suspension and kmember, 425/550# springs, Koni orange shocks, subframe connectors, ftbr rear kit. Aluminum block etc to get it to 3350lbs. Twins for 800whp with a built cooling system and diff, oil and trans coolers.

It’s a shitty old foxbody and that’s why I like it honestly. Rather go 150mph in this and feel a bit scared than 200mph in a tuned s65 (can sleep easy doing that) as far as fun is concerned

A auto ZL1 has superior power and acceleration and requires no heal toe downshift skills so it's in a different class.
    even girls know this:

But it is one heck of a value and an awesome machine.

And decent ZL1 driver giving a pass to the GT350 knows that dude can drive.

I'm glad you realize it is a faster car for less money. Are we done here?

    I’d take a gt350 over a zl1

Dude, cheap speed evolves and it's relative to the sample point...

I know they've got potential like most cars, I was more so speaking factory efforts. I would never drive any car on track with drum brakes period lol

Not talking about cheap speed, I’m in my 03 cobra more than a used or new gt350 or zl1 costs.

No, my point is it’s way more fun to drive something less isolated than more isolated.

Going 150mph in a foxbody is seat of your pants scary/sketchy fun.

Going 150mph in a Mercedes s class is impressive because it’s so docile. But you could take a nap and probably be fine. Try taking a nap in a foxbody at 150mph regardless if it has a stock chassis or a fully built chassis.

25mph is very boring in a car, but very engaging in a go cart. That’s my point. The sensation is what’s really enjoyable to me. The adrenaline from being on the edge of safety. That’s the case to me anyways.

25mph would be engaging in a shopping kart.. Not a go kart

    1. There's no trophies at an HPDE day, there are a lot of factors that make a car a good track car, and speed (ironically) is not always one of them; hence, the miata being like the number 1 tracked car in the world.

    2. There may not be a lot of mustangs where you are, but there certainly are in my area. The irony i suppose is that our perception is just based on our respective experiences.

    3. Again, there's no trophies at a track day. I've passed a C6 z06 and newer M4 in a stock mazdaspeed 3, and had a very capable miata pass my very capable 2013 5.0. Often times you're beating a driver and not a car, your video is circumstantial evidence. That being said, I do openly admit the 6th gen camaro is one hell of a platform, but you just don't see them at track days. Again with perception and circumstantial evidence, I probably see as many mustangs each track day as I have seen Camaros total, people just don't seem to run them for some reason.

Its refreshing reading a post from someone who understands the car you bring doesnt have a lot of bearing on whos going to be faster on a generic track day haha.

Nailed it regarding shopping carts, some great times!

Go carts are fun at 25mph though, very engaging. Go to local indoor kart tracks and you barely hit 40, but taking turns at 10-25 is still very engaging.

You can do the same thing in a civic in a parking lot auto-x event but it’s no where near as fun unless it’s like an open cage track toy like an Ariel atom

I now have my own pro kart track at our facility! The basic rentals do 45mph but time for me to buy a Tag... I wish I took up hard drugs as a hobby, woulda been cheaper

I agree if you just do track days and not competitive Time Trials like me. I also don't get people that bench race like beejebus on the internet, then say "it doesn't matter" when they are presented with factual evidence that x is faster than y.

Edit: If anyone is curious, here are the results from the last Time Trial I participated in.

Still a bunch of amatuers with amatuer setups, lol your own list there is a good example why there is literally zero factual evidence that x is faster than y. Bench racing is fun to do until the pro's get their hands on them for real instrument testing. Does it matter? No. But its fun.

Ok, so we can't know what car is faster unless a paid, professional driver is doing it. I was actually expecting to have someone say that I had too much experience to be "typical", so touche. I'm ok with bench racing until the cows come home.

The important thing to look for on that list I posted is the class.

S = Sport (basically filter, exhaust, tune, 200TW tires)
    T = Tuner (a few more mods, 200TW)
M = Modified (full adjustable suspensions, internal engine modifications, 200TW)
U = Unlimited (race cars on slicks)

I run a basically stock Camaro ZL1 in the S1 class and I was the 7th fastest overall in a field of 100 cars. Most GT350R times I've seen wouldn't have broken the top 25.

All I'm saying is amateur time trials has no base for factual x is faster than y. There is no argument from me that the Camaro is a superior car but seems the majority of gt350 drivers seem to be old men who can't drive (I rarely see them on the track too). Last 350R I ran into was waving me by all day. By no means is my car even remotely faster

That video shows some good skills. In all my days I've not seen a zl1 on track yet, a few ss's and z28's, never gave them no mind but clearly slower cars in compare... plenty of vettes, porsches, bmw's holding their own... Which all comes back to my expectation that the GT500 will manage ZL1's in general and I look forward to my first encounter with either species
