The Fox chassis was pretty bad, let's be honest. Thanks to some fairly large production numbers and with the passage of time, the aftermarket has really delivered here. At least they were light.
I agree that the aftermarket made the cars basically a blank canvas for whatever you wanted and could afford. I also remember the snap oversteer that was inherent to the Fox Body rear suspension that made me shit my pants more than once. SN95 Cobras tamed it a bit, but it was still lurking at the limits.
Edit: I've never driven my Mystichrome Cobra on the road course and I won't, but the IRS with springs, bushings, subframes, IRS cover is significantly more stable than the old Fox/SN95 4-link. It's my cruiser and maybe my manual transmission keeper.
