just did a trip to oregon with the 373s.. not the most scientific test but i got 23-24 mpg before with the 430s i would get 21-22.. so not as much as i expected :dw:... so the argument that gears kill mpg is out the window..

Well it was always a fear people had. It usually comes to people like you just getting them and doing a simple test to prove that it doesnt matter.

was your driving style similar? Weather similar? Tunes both the same? Tires all the same? Weight in the car the same? Were both sets of tires aired up before the trip?

The 4v motor doesnt mind being revved' so i didnt think gears would hurt it that bad.

Well the fact that it doesnt mind being reved is not the issue. Just because a performance engine can rev to 9k rpm doesnt mean its good on gas.

As long as you drove the same style and amount of highway/city then doing a simple miles driven divided by gallons used would be good enough. Assuming you filled up both times at the pump.

yes everything was close but not exact.. not the best experiment but gives a idea that gears dont change mpg that much.. basically it was all freeway.. 300miles and ive dont it a few times with same results..

i think it comes down to load vs rpm and our motors seem not to be effected much either way..

I recently got 24mpgs all highway and even with some play time. With 3.55s I got mid-upper 20s easily on the highway.

In the city I still get the same as 3.55s. 21mpgs is the best I've gotten so far in the city with 4.30s, but usually about 17-20 and with 3.55s it was usually 18-20.

I got 28mpg with 28" and 3.55 on my way to tx for tx2k11. It's like running 3.27 with the stock size tire. That was running about 80 to 90 most of the way. Car got about 25 mpg with the 315(26") tires.

I just purchased 4.56's and I DD my car but mostly around town. So I feel I may get even better mileage being able to cruise comfortably in 5th. I know the interstate will be slightly different. In all honesty, who buys this car for MPG? Not me !

I've had a best of 29 mpg with the 3.55's (Virginia to Indiana)

With 4.30's it was 24.6 (Virginia to California).

I got mid 20's with my 4.10's all day on the highway. - high 20's with the 3.55's.

It is all in how you drive, but no matter how good you drive, on the highway those RPMs are going to be higher than with 3.55s so of course you lose a little bit, and this is likely the change you'll see.

From mid-upper 20s to mid 20s, that's what mine is with 4.30s. Not that big of a deal, especially considering the fun you get out of them.

in my old 97 cobra with 4.10s i pulled 24.5 mpg on a 160 straight highway trip with the a/c blasting and I also got on her pretty hard a few times (a couple different on ramps, messin around with a couple guys on the highway, etc...) I thought that was great honestly. I'm goin 4.30s in my mach for sure...

I get 22 driving 56miles one way to work with 4.10s and cobra cams but my tune is rich. I got 24 driving on a 200mile trip when the car was stock so with a better tune I think 24's would be atainable again.
