How large is large?

Long guns? Scoped? Does he need room for ammo as well?

Yes to all of the above.

Large, would be able to fit long guns without crowding. Scopes and all. Probably a minimum of 50" wide.

Budget?

I'm in the process now of finding one myself but I don't have the space for that large of one unfortunately

I've got a friend that needs a large gun safe. What's everyone's suggestions?

- Safes have gotten obscenely expensive.
- A 24 gun safe fits 12 guns (almost).
- I like Liberty's. There are others besides Liberty "Made in USA".
- Some neat LED kits out there for inside lighting.
- IMHO, 2 or 3 smaller safes are better than 1 large one.

That might depend on how small you're talking. I have two small safes for my three 9mms, magazines, ammo. Both can easily be picked up and removed from my house. A large gun safe is heavy enough where it's near impossible to steal from a home. Depending on the size, security level and fire rating, they usually weigh from 600-1,000 lbs. My pistol nightstand safes weigh about 15 lbs. For me, though, a large gun safe isn't practical. It would take up about 1/3 of our walk-in closet in our bedroom. And it would be a higher dollar investment. If I had a large and varied gun collection, I'd probably put it in my basement to store my collection, and use a small nightstand size stand for both my family room and bedroom.

Some good suggestions here. Will pass the info on.

On a side note, I asked my step son what he bought. American Security. Those are expensive!

Got my Springfield Saint pretty much set up. I have an optic just got to get it sighted in. Love the Blue Force Gear sling. Down the line I think I'll get a free floating handguard and ditch the fixed front sight post, but this'll do for now.

Nice… that mid length gas system, correct?

I’d finish it off with a Magpul Moe SL mid length hand-guard… Id be cherry on top!

Liberty Safe Franklin 50

That's not a small dresser and mirror. The safe is quite large.

Ext. Dim. (H x W x D) 72.5" x 42" x 27.5"
1002 lbs. empty

The Franklin is a good balance between security and cost. I'd like to get another one just for ammo storage.

The Colonial is also a good option, at a lower cost.

Holy crap! That dresser looks like a night stand next to that (awesome) gun safe.

Nice fire rating.

First, i recommend watching this video:
With that said, to me the average box store safe is just to keep little kids out of stuff. I'm prepared and accept everything in mine will get messed up from heat, smoke and water in case of a fire. If someone breaks into my house when uses tools to get it open, so be it. It can all be replaced.

To answer your question, I recommend another smaller safe. Two small safes are easier to deal with then one big one. I do wish mine was higher so i can put shotguns and bolt actions in it but if needed, i can brake down my 28" shotgun and i bought a tikka tac a1 over the bergara hmr only due to the stock being able to fold.

My buddy found a deal on a liberty safe at tractor supply. It's the 1776 series? He said it's got a 75 minute rating and holds up to 64 guns. It had a small Nick in the paint so he talked them down another $100.
