Hi -

I am in the middle of installing a Ford Racing Diff Girdle (what a PITA this is). I just noticed one of the inner boots has a hole in it. Doesn't look like I can just replace the boot (maybe I can).

I could find stock style axles from RockAuto and go that route. Has anyone bought stock replacement axles? From where? Experiences?

...Or I could go full bore and buy upgraded CV axles. What are your opinions on the DSS upgrade below? FORD 2001-2004 Cobra Pro-Level Axle/Hub Kit - Driveshaft Shop

Thanks as always. I miss the ease of working the solid axle. This IRS is a pain to work on.

DO NOT buy axles from rock auto. They are trash. I actually made a thread about them.

The big issue with them is they lack a taper on the splines that pass through the hub. There's no way to actually torque the nut because it bottoms out.

Wow. Yep. Won’t be ordering those.

I went ahead got FTBR boots. I’ll upgrade to DSS or G Force shafts at some point but for
Now new boots will be fine.

Man I miss the SRA in my GT lol

I bought GForce outlaw axles because I didn’t want to have to mess with the irs again. And well I am good at breaking shit

My old half shaft had a leak from the outer boot so I ended up buying a good used one off ebay. Still have my old one, not sure if I should just sell it as it is or try rebuilding it. Not sure how much a leaky half shaft is worth...

I'll put it together as is just to get it off the lift. I'll do the boots when they come in the (who knows when FTBR will ship them). I'll start saving for some axles I guess. for $2-3k, I could have a decently built SRA....no wonder guys go that route.

From what I’ve seen, the same stuff that breaks the stock ones will break the G force ones.

Pretty sure some of the dudes running low 9s/8s are on stock shafts.

I have 35 spline shafts in the 9” in my Jeep that I built for abuse and they aren’t much bigger than the shafts in our Cobras. Maybe an 1/8” different
