I thought the cooling mod was a prevention for the tick. I'm getting mine in next Saturday. But I'm curious about this too.
The cooling mod does not guarantee you won't get the tick. It improves coolant flow, so it is insurance that you will be very unlikely to get it. The only guaranteed cure (if the issue doesn't exist yet) is to get the latest head. http://www.stangshiftergaskets.com/2003_2004faqs.htm#_Toc35092459

No...
It's not just about the heat.. The fuel systems on this car have a hard time keeping up...
Just don't try it, unless you have plans for a new engine or rebuild
