Got my first real lidar warning on the way to the airport in Houston this morning. Looks like HPD is starting to play with the latest toys. An HPD Camero was on the left side shoulder with the officer out of the car shooting the gun at oncoming traffic on 59.

Fair warning to all us V1 and other detector users! We will get busted much easier with lidar than with radar.

I didn't get any advanced warning. Luckily I was only doing about 80, along with everybody else, so he didn't pay me much attention.

I have noticed more and more of HPD cars using lidar lately. I passed one the other day on 288 by the beltway heading towards pearland. Thank God I was in traffic. I usually fly through there!!!

They have been using them for a long time on the Gulf freeway and around the ship channel bridge. There is a group of them that travel from place to place and put a hurting on speeders. The V-1 is great, but it will only get you a ticket against Laser. I called V-1 about this and they told me they are working on and for now mount your detector as low as you can to try to pick up the signal. I was hoping that they would have a hard time picking up our Cobras, due no plate and no grills in the front, but I guess that is not true. I know one of the hardest cars for them to lock on is the Firebird with the plastic nose. Looks like it may be time to invest in a passive laser device.:bash:

I think they tested a device in MM&FF about year ago, that was capable of scattering the laser long enough to delay the reading on the gun.

I got the Escort Laser Shiftrt ZR-3. It has two active laser modules in the front and on in the rear. Inside the car it has the "brains" , tyhe display, and a button you can hit to turn it off for 30 seconds. You want to do that as soon as it tells you that you are being clocked. Because some of the new laser guns will display "JAMMING" and the cop will know you have a jammer. What the Shifter does is let you know you are being clocked, you jump on the brakes and as soon as you are legal hit the 30 sec off button. Then when he hits you with the laser a second time to see whats wrong you will be at a legal speed and he will get a good return and no JAMMING warning.

Yea, the problem with any laser jammers is that is not against the law to transmit the light, but it's against the law to interfere with law enforcement equipment. So it's a catch 22.

For you folks on Florida. The FHP also use LIDAR. Have detected it in Florida on I-10, I-75 and on the turnpike. Be careful

LIDAR = LIght Detection and Ranging. Basically a regular radar gun but uses a laser for the speed measurement portion. (Greatly simplified)

Georgia has been using lidar for some time now. I look for cars parked on the side, especially in the shadow of overpasses.

Even more troubling is the instant on that GSP has been using. I've seen the car before my V1 has on occasion. It's very deadly.

I have found that the cruise control works much better than the V1 for avoiding tickets (that and avoid driving red or yellow cars). Also of note, here in Georgia, state law says that locals cannot give a ticket for less than 10 over the speed limit. It was passed to prevent speed traps. Only exception is if a trooper is pacing you, but they usually don't pull anyone for less than 15 over. Also, only the GSP are allowed to hide. All others must be visible and identifiable for at least 500 ft. Even with all that, it's still easy for them to pick you off.
