What’s going on gentlemen, I originally had no intention of posting about my accident. However with all of the overwhelming support of you fine people on this forum I figured I’d come out and talk about it. So on Saturday July 29th I had myself my first motorcycle accident. It has been an up and down rollercoaster ride so far I must admit. Luckily I have the support of very good friends, and many of you on this forum. You guys have become my friends, and feels like a family. I can’t express the kindness you guys have shown me, and how much it means to me. So from the bottom of my heart thank you. Now onto the goodies of it all.
I made the call to have my Sonic Blue search thread come to an end due to the uncertainty of my recovery. I’ve been told mixed things from a few doctors. I’m going to do my best to get separate opinions instead of just listening to one. I was told 2-6 week, I just got told 4-8 months.
So currently a couple broken fingers, wrist is not good. My knee isn’t broken, but my knee cap is 45 degrees sideways. I’m awaiting more results and MRI’s to tell me whether I have a torn calf muscle, or torn MCL. I can’t move my ankle, and my calf is always hurting. I ended up riding the bike home.
We were doing the “iron butt challenge” similar to the Revzilla one. You ride from Sarasota, all the way down to key wests most southern point of Florida. Mile marker 0. So my brother and brother in law on their groms, and myself on a buddies Z125 Kawasaki. The bikes been down before, but nothing major was wrong as I was told. Bike hasn’t ran in a year. So we got it started. Tires, chain, etc all up to spec. As we began to ride I noticed that the bike had a slight pull to the left. I left my hands off the bars and it pulled left. So I said well I’ll be more cognizant of this issue. About 10 miles into the trip we get to a bit of a “bumpy” pothole type area. I’m going about 40 or so, this is about 6:30am so no light out yet. I ended up hitting a pothole and it jerked the handle bars to the left, by the time I tried to correct it the bike began to tank slap. It was out of my control, the handle bars are so small on those bikes, the smallest of movements feels like the biggest turn. Needless to say I went down hard and fast. Rolled a few times, and got myself some good rash, and such. Moral of the story is, pay better attention to the bike you’re riding, and if it doesn’t feel right, don’t trust it. I learned an expensive lesson. I’m still around to tell the story unlike many of my fallen friends. So I’ll take my wounds and keep pushing. I just hope the damage to my knee and wrist don’t keep me out of my cars for to long.
