Was right in front of my daughters day care - about to pick her up. I goosed it a little in first and (pardon the old school batman effects) BANG! BOOM! Clank clank clank clank clank.

Parked it right there on the side of the road. Fortunately I was on a side road when this happened.

I wasn't sure exactly what broke till I took this pic....

Weak link - the Transmission Output Shaft. :-( I wish I had never figured it out.

Tow truck (flatbed) came and towed it to my house. No idea exactly what to do. I figure it needs a new transmission and Driveshaft input shaft? I think that part in the driveshaft is replaceable, right?

For those curious - I was on street tires - cheap ones at that.... :(

Wtf?! I've never heard of another case like this. I've heard plenty of cases of the input shaft breaking but, never the output shaft.

Yeah, I was all set for an input shaft pic. First I heard of that. Did you have your brake on? Transmission output shaft... go figure.

Not the first. We have a car at our shop with a busted tailshaft housing the exploded. He's currently getting a 4r70w. :D

I thought about going auto. I think my wife would drive her more often if she didn't have the third pedal to deal with. I'll have to investigate my options.

dont do it, trust me you will regret it.

Im thinking the yolk on the shaft took a crap, got banged around and took it out. thats really uncommon.

I just done a auto swap a month ago it is freaking awesome. The main reason for me doing it was I didn't want to put 3-5 grand into a 6 speed and the auto will still be faster
