I sold my 1952 REO 5 ton army truck this weekend. I've owned it for 8 years and I haven't touched it, so it was time to go to someone who could finish it. It hadn't run in about 3 years or moved in about 5, but it only took about 1 hour to get it running....I though that was pretty good lol. About 10 ft into getting it out, the starter solenoid died, so we wired it up directly to the battery...Whatever works.

I made a video of it getting out of the bush, which went fairly smooth.

I can relate to everything the OP stayed, except the selling part. Our newer school LMTV sits as yard art growing lichen. I know that Cat will fire off as long as the starter get juice. People really enjoy engaging in conversation about our truck named Stewie.

That motor actually ran pretty smooth and sounded good! That's a cool military truck and I hope the buyer brings it back to full life.
