I thought a while ago Ford moved to metric sized fasteners, am I mistaken? Just had to tap a suspension nut for the lower strut bolt and had to used a sae 1/2-13 tap. I never could tell with the bolts themselves since the metric vs sae tools have similar sizing. I been using metric this whole time

Depends on when the part was designed. Feds decided we were a metric country, can't remember when. Anything designed since then, is metric. Anything that was designed before then, can stay standard. Which is why things like studs are still 1/2-20, and lug nuts are also standard. If you look farther back to push rod engines, you'll find an engine full of standard bolts, in an automobile held together w metric lol
