IRS id question

I want to put a irs in my 88lx and am going to look at one tomorrow. Aside from removing the axle shafts is there any other way to id which year the assembly is from? I know that I don’t want one from a 99

Not sure of a way to know the # of splines inside the diff without the halfshafts, but I think only Terminators had the bigger pinion flange/yoke.

I believe the shafts are noticeably thicker
