Yes it needs a tune. You can drive it without a tune just fine but it will shift way too early and will tend to want to overrevv at wot.a converter doesnt need a tune? you just do tune to change drivability?

Are you heating up the tire pretty good each run? I have heard 555r's respond well to heat.
May be time for some suspension upgrades.
have you tried transbrake with stock converter....if so what was your 60 ft after....i know t.b work . I have gain .07 on my 60 ft with t.b and 2 step but that was with a 2c converter....just curious to see result with stock converter because t.b hold less rpm with itTransbrake will definitely help with the stock converter, it is just way more efficient than footbraking, you don't get any better in holding the car back. The best I could get on stock converter, standing on the brake, was 1.86 60ft. went to a 5c and instantly went to a 1.62 not even pushing it. Mine always ran better when I was up on the converter, 12.37@112, all stock w/tune & 3.55 gears.
