Ford engineers state the the 03-04s was safe till 700 BHP. the shelby is said to be good for the same.

The 00R had better rods because it reved to 7K. RPM is what kills rods. To save pistons the trick is in the tune.

They stopped making power at 6500rpm due to excessive intake runner length, so there was no reason to go higher. Also, being that they were meant for OT duty means overbuilding was a good idea.

Someone stated something about mains in the cobra. WTF? its the same design and build of all the other mod motors. so inharently ALL the mod motors would have this same problem.

Most stock mod motors aren't pushing 600rw+. :rollseyes
If they were, they would also have the same issues.

Yep. The Mods STOCK mains start to walk with the strain of a loaded 650 at the wheels. This led to a new procedure for torqueing the side and main cap bolts with the 99 and up non Teksid blocks. The Iron truck block(the one in the GT500) is slightly more more stable, but the piston speed of the stroker is the next issue. It is recommended that any severe use MOD uses some form of stud girdle and upgraded fasteners. Kind of like the ones that went into the 00 "R".

For what its worth the high end aluminium GT block was rengineered from the existing Ford casting by Roush/SVT to provide a more stable main saddle with the increase in the load due the supercharger on the crank snout. The increased web thickness and the extra stiffening ribs on the M-6010 FRPP block(ne the GT) were unique to that program and part of the dissapointment in not getting that casting with the GT500.

Having typed that, has anyone got anymore on the iron 5.4 being used in the Bullitt, and the sent back for another look BOSS SE being in limbo as the iron N.A. 5.4 was considered inapropriate for a BOSS?

I don't remember anything about a Bullitt with 5.4? It's still going to be an aluminum 3v (possibly with revised heads) with around 335hp.

The 5.4 N/A Boss SE program approval is still pending, I'll post the results as soon as I hear in the "Latest Boss Info" thread.
