Hate to break it to you, but when I lived in CA I paid less.

Property taxes in TX on my @200k house are 4500.

Property taxes on my 330k house in CA were @3k.

Income tax was @3k. Was only making 110k back then @2008

You get a tax deduction on FED for income tax.

The 330k house in CA was bigger and nicer than my 200k house in TX.

It’s probably a wash financially but the house was better so….

TX is a ****ing ripoff. At least in El Paso. Ugliest city I’ve ever lived in.

El Paso really isn’t Texas. It’s in a different time zone. It’s more Mexico than Texas.
Not sure where you lived but I didn’t think you could buy a 100 sq/ft house for 200k anywhere in Cali.

Dumb Question...

Where is Texas not a Shit Hole?

Houston? Basically Atlanta Junior.

Dallas? An endless sprawling wasteland of blandness.

Austin, San Antonio? The New Portland.

The rest of it is like a mix of Mexico or New Mexico.

Despite all that land there is like zero public land as well and prosperity is retarded expensive.

Central TX is beautiful.

Like anywhere else, any big city is a shithole.

I just drove from Key West to El Paso. Nonstop shitholes in every state.

Only nice place was where I didn’t see a house for 3hrs straight running 95mph through TX.

Hill county area is great, for now. Taxes are low, population is low.

In 2020, my property taxes in Driftwood were $16,000 on a 3150 sq ft home on 5.5 acres.

In 2021, we moved to hill country Blanco, got a nearly identical home on 5.3 acres, and taxes are $7,000.

Biggest difference is school taxes. Small school district helps so much here. Our one and only high school has ~300 kids.

They don't call it Hell Paso for no reason.

There's a bill floating around this legislative session that would possibly bump the homestead exemption from $40k up to $75k, which would be helpful to many.

California has a lot of wealthy people as I'm sure Texas does. In addition to income taxes I'd be interested in seeing how much CA residents pay in capital gains taxes as opposed to Texas residents.

The land of commies and socialists!
Let's just assume he's right or at a minimum it's a wash at the end of the day.

What dumb **** doesn't understand is its not the taxes that drive people out. It's the way this state is run and the BS that comes out of Sacramento.

I know several people who have left the state and always ask why they are leaving. Not one that I can recall said taxes first and at least half never listed it.

Take a guess at what the number one reason was for almost everyone before continuing.

Cost of living in one form or another, every time. People simply can't afford to buy a house here and still be comfortable.

Then there is the pronouns trash infiltrating the school system that they can't stand. Frankly neither can I.

The lock downs and vax mandated also have played a role. One friend left his job over it, moved to Kentucky and went back to aviation.

Again, dumb **** in office doesn't understand why people are actually leaving.
